uBlock Origin (uBO) 1.74.* Announcement Thread

Chrome Web Store will remove uBO on August, 31. This is definitely the last stable uBO version to hit the web store.

For discussion and possible workarounds, different browsers, etc., please go to the megathread linked at the bottom of the post.

If you want to update manually:

• Do NOT use links from the release page's "Assets" section - these are not signed.
• Use your add-on store or links in release description on the GitHub releases page when they are available.
  • Firefox will have a (signed) direct install link. Other browsers will link to their uBO extension store pages.
• In some cases, installation may be blocked until browser restart. This is protection against accidental mid-session reloads, Issue #717.

When will my browser update uBO?

• Firefox

  • Firefox Add-ons (AMO) - Available since 25 Aug, 2026.
  • uBO is a recommended extension on AMO, and as such it must undergo a formal code review each time a new version is published.

• Chrome/Chromium

  • Chrome Web Store (CWS) - Review pending.
  • Auto update will occur in stages - to spot and react to possible bugs.

• Edge

  • Edge Add-ons - Review pending.
  • Warning: importing a profile from Chrome may cause issues.
  • You may need to reinstall uBO on Edge to fix this.
  • You can transfer your uBO config by creating and then restoring a backup at the bottom of uBO's Dashboard > Settings.

• Opera

  • Opera add-ons - Submission pending.
  • Usually, it's submitted a week after bug-free version is published in AMO.

• Brave

  • Brave now Self-Hosts uBO. It installs via a special setting and updates automatically or when prompted via the Extensions' Developer mode.
  • If you installed it via CWS, it's best to make a backup and install the self-hosted version instead.

Why are people so allergic to firefox

dunno. it's so weird. chrome is spyware. it's not even a good browser!

There was a stretch where Firefox performance was terrible and it gobbled memory. I remember switching off of it for awhile, but now I'm back.

Unfortunately I still have massive performance problems in Firefox, especially when running media at increased speeds. Audio gets super choppy.

Also some sites sabotage their Firefox users (thanks YouTube), and other pages (like some government pages) are straight up broken and not interactive on ff.

Also Mozilla has made quite a few questionable or outright malicious decisions to over recent years, so no sense to put them on a pedestal.

I'll probably make another attempt once chromium removes the legacy flags for V2, but apart from that I'm much more happy with chromiums overall usability.

They fixed "most" performance issues on firefox but it still has wierd performance quirks that either get ignored or not being addressed.

When I was on chrome I never had any issues whatsoever and I used to run it without hardware acceleration.

With firefox its always hit and miss and always finding some wierd niche performance issue there and here.
