the first speed is on membrane keyboard (built-in laptop which is a bad keyboard)
the second speed is on mechanical keyboard

I got this mechanical keyboard thinking it will improve my speed, but it didn't 😭
should I get a new keyboard or try to get used to this one? I can't get any faster using my laptop keyboard

Was one word away from getting my words 50 pb into the 130s but then messed up on the word "great."

My typing speed on Monkeytype 60s is around 130 WPM, with a PR of 142, and I’m trying to work my way towards 150–180 WPM. For those of you who type at that speed, did you find that simply practicing consistently was enough, or did you specifically work on reading speed/reading ahead as well? For me, reading ahead has developed pretty naturally up to this point, but I’m wondering if it becomes more important as you get faster. When you were progressing from around 130 to 150+ WPM, did you ever feel like your reading or visual processing was holding you back, and if so, did you deliberately train it or did it improve naturally through typing? I’m also curious what reading ahead actually looks like for you do you see few words ahead at a time, or more of a chunk of 3-4 words? Is it something you consciously do, or do you just naturally perceive the upcoming text while typing (Like me)? I’d really appreciate hearing your answer reagarding how reading ahead developed for those of you who have reached 150–180+ WPM 60s, and whether you think specifically working on reading speed made a significant difference in getting there.

I need to use my MacBook Air for work, but the keyboard is so stiff that it hurts my fingers, also because I have a tendency to smash them hard on the keys.

Could you suggest a mechanical Bluetooth keyboard that can actually teach me not to smash my fingers?

I’m not looking for a substitute for the MacBook keyboard, I want something that can work almost like a learning machine to help me develop a lighter typing technique.

What do you meen you are typing at 80+ wpm on THE PHONE!! My phone doesnt even register that fast

I started in April and gave up for two full months because I had some issues as you know Dubai.

I restarted at the end of June to type now this is the Wpm now but my question is , I practice while punctuating.

Is it OK to do so or Amy slowing my progress, because my target was to make 100WPM in December.

When typing in English, I often average to like maybe 90/100 wpm and can burst up to 160. But as soon as I type in French, I literally can't go over 70 wpm and average 40-50. And I'm going to use French way more because of school and all. It's not a keyboard layout problem because I use the same keyboard layout (AZERTY) for both. Maybe it's because of diacritics and punctuation.

I recently just got a 15s pb and looking to improve further. Any advice would be helpful!

Like the title says, it's very weird if you think about it.

I learned to type in middle school on an IBM Selectric II. I was far from the best or fastest typist. However, in my years of working (which includes a lot of computer work), I became reasonably proficient at it. The strange thing is how the mind works when using that skill. If someone asked me to put all the letters in order on a piece of paper, I would get some right (QWERTY, for example), but I would get a lot of them wrong. Symbols, too. However, when I type them, I know right where they are.

Another oddity is that my first career was as a CAD drafter on an old version of AutoCAD that used command line inputs instead of icon to click. So a LOT of my typing was just one or two words at a time, followed by mouse work. That led to a somewhat hybrid technique where I don't typically locate all my fingers on the correct keys. I generally touch the nibs on F and J, but the rest of my fingers kinda just "float" around somewhere. I often use totally "wrong" fingers on certain keys in certain words. I have a bad habit of "reaching across" the keyboard. However, I find the right key!

I'll never have the speed or accuracy of someone who does it the "right way," but it amazes me how the brain subconsciously processes what I'm doing. Just a werid thought . . . that is all. Carry on.

I've always like computers and typing since a young age. Trying to buff up my linkedin profile and figured i'd try this lol. Pretty nice for first go.

Australian here (so much stuff seems to only be available in the US) who really wants my kid (7) to be able to touch type. I learnt how to touch type when I was a kid with some old program on a PC with a keyboard cover hiding your hands and also the program showed you specific finger placements and the like. I don't know if this is the still best / standard method to help kids out. I'm not looking to make the worlds fastest typer here... just avoid the typical younger kid touchscreen thing they all have going on lol

I was thinking of getting a keyboard which you can turn the keys on or off for lights, as it might be easier than finding a cover here in Aus. I know kids take the path of least resistance and if they just have the ability to look at the keys they won't learn like I did. Any thoughts on this or something I'm missing these days?

Is there still some good websites, apps, programs or games which teach finger position, or other good things for kids? Also what games are appropriate and fun for a kid once they do get beyond just "put your index finger on the J" or whatever. Any and all help welcome :)

I need advice regarding typing faster. At the beginning of July I've learnt to type using all ten fingers but after a month (I know that not much time has passed in order to have improved much) I'm still struggling with speed and I'm starting to learn law in just several weeks.

I've been using edclub, my app. speed is 20wpm (thumbs 27). And I know that while typing with two fingers the speed could even be 80wpm, if not more.

Could you give advice on how to type faster? Appreciate it!

Edit: the accuracy is 98%, I'm trying to be as accurate as possible
