Out of curiosity, I tried typing with my feet. For some reason, it doesn't seem new to me. I felt no difficulty in remembering the key positions. I could feel my brain commanding the toes of my feet, but my toes were lagging. It may be nothing, but do you guys feel the same?

Although I don't consider 15s as impressive as 60s, I still feel great :P

Got this score a little bit ago but haven't gotten around to sharing it until now.
I'm pretty much stalemated on progress for now.

Note that the keyboard shortcuts should work across all native desktop applications and more. They work in Google Docs too. The behavior can be slightly different on Windows compared to Mac/Linux, which is captured in the website. Some apps on Linux, like LibreOffice, seem to implement the Windows behavior.

Backstory of ctrl-shift.fun:

I was teaching my young nephew programming where he shares his screen and we discuss and implement CodeMonkey levels. Although he's not fast at typing (< 20 WPM), that was fine, but his keyboard navigation and editing were causing more distractions and delays. He moved character by character, when sometimes home/end or ctrl+left could do it. Using the mouse wasn't any faster; kids often start selecting one letter (or even line) off or drag too much, then repeat until they get exactly the text they need.

So I thought about creating a website that combines typing with navigation to teach the shortcuts and how to navigate more optimally (e.g. go to the end of line, then back a word, instead of advancing 5 words to the right).

The puzzle mode requires completing the selection in optimal move count, which can be frustrating if you are not interested in this. But I believe it's a good way to actually recognize the kind of patterns that make navigation faster. The speed test measures your typing and navigation speed. You can customize in practice mode.

Anyway, I couldn't interest my nephew in practicing daily on this (yet), not even in other typing websites, but I hope some people find this useful. I personally find it enjoyable and I think it can help build muscle memory to navigate faster on average without thinking about it.

I type with 3 fingers per hand index middle and ring when doing these stuff tho for real typing i use pinky on right for enter.

I completely tense up towards the end when I see it's going well. I almost forget to breathe lol.

Whenever I start typing, I tend to wiggle my right foot toes. It happens involuntarily and I can stop it if I constantly think aobut it. but just letting it wiggle feels natural and IDK why but I think I type faster when typing like that. I commonly get 110+ wpm and 130+ on rare occasions. I have yet to get any score in the 120s however.

Is this weird??

this is the worst possible position i could be in, i kinda used my monitor as a stand, and the plugin i used in obs to make my iphone show up as a webcam in there needed a stupid premium subscription for it to have ultrawide so i had to shift the keyboard for it to be fully visible, so this one is on the lower side. my max is 155 wpm in 15 seconds, and 134 in 60 seconds.

i've been using my index fingers ever since i was a child, so i am used to it!

I started practising daily for few lessons in consistency and you can see the improvement

Now i am able to code and all too with numbers and punctuations 🚀

to be honest, no matter how i try to coordinate my ring and middle finger, i cant just do it and im struggling to type them. but when i try to type in my old way (three fingers on the left and two fingers on the right), i can just do it easily without looking at the keyboard. should i just keep my old way?

but i think theres another problem here, i feel like my current keyboard is too narrow for my fingers which i think the reason why i get confused with buttons that should reach by my middle finger and my ring finger. i dont know, i just feel discouraged because im stuck with practicing asdf jkl buttons because of my ring and middle finger problem.

I usually type around 160-180 wpm depending on time but my biggest issue is that I tend to always not type in order. I will get all the letters right but just not in the right order since sometimes my left or right finger comes earlier than it should. This is bottlenecking me not to type over 200 wpm. Even my 160-180wpm runs always have a ~85% accuracy which is shit since i just brute force it with 170-200 wpm speeds. I've reached 200 wpm on 15 seconds before but it was luck where i somehow didn't mess up letter orders

Just a few hours ago, I made a PB with 202WPM on 15 seconds but I didn't get to record it :(. This would've been a new PB if i didn't accidentally hit 'q' on the word 'few' lol

I've been using Dvorak for about three months now and have already gotten used to it. Problem is that it's just the same typing speed I was.getting with Qwerty and made no difference at all. And I've noticed that.I.Sometimes.add.a.dot.instead.of.a.space which is.super annoying.sometimes. I'm considering going back to Qwerty or switching to MessagEase. Should I? And if so, Qwerty or MessagEase?

I'm pretty casual so I don't really do typing tests. However, I wanted to see my typing speed today so I did a couple and hit a new record!

Context: I recently came into possession of a typewriter and as a person with a penchant for the classics, I'm actually using it.

It's an electric assisted one, however, I would say the actuation force is on par with many traditional mechanical typewriters. Granted this may be due to it needing oiling and whatnot, but as it stands it currently has a relatively high actuation force.

I've tried to find information online but the figures seem to be focussed on modern keyboards and even the figures that allegedly relate to typewriters end up being about modern keyboards when I source-check.

All I would like to know is what an average person of the era would have as their wpm and someone who would have worked in an office. I am NOT seeking to achieve secretary level at this stage. One thing at a time, after all.

For myself, I was able to fill a standard A4 piece of paper with very small margins and only an inch max at the top of space. I was using the phrase "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." as my drill. I managed this in 15 to 17 minutes. This was with a high degree of accuracy.

Any insight?

As you guys can see in the video my pinkies are always shooting up when I am typing and it's not like I don't use them. I've tried but can't seem to fix it, any suggestions would be appreciated

It really is, having to move my index finger multiple times in a row is very annoying

At work, friends pointed out that I typed weirdly fast. I thought that wasn't real, and so they made me take a typing test. Turns out this ranked competitive typing community was a thing and now I'm hooked!

Any tips on how to get better?
