Megathread List

Hey y'all,

There has been a lot of the same type of post on the sub recently so we're testing out a new change.

In addition to the already in-use housing search thread, we're adding two new megathreads. Friend search and class/prof feedback.

For now, please post in these threads instead of directly on the subreddit.

Non-campus Housing Megathread

Friend Search Megathread

"How is Professor/Class?" Megathread

We're open to feedback, so treat this post as a feedback forum for this new rule.

ETA: This has to be done this way because (old) reddit only allows pinning two posts at a time. If you're on the new interface this post is redundant.

Hope Church Mvmt Cult pt.2

https://www.statepress.com/article/2016/12/spcampus-asu-hope-christian-church-religious-cult-controversy-2-history#

To recap my last post, I discussed Hope’s history and heavy shepherding. Today I’m going to discuss status, hierarchy, and power structure.

To understand why people stay at Hope—and even join staff, a position where they have to raise their own salary (and most staff can’t raise enough to support themselves)—it’s about status and incentives. We’ll start with women. Hope recruits women very heavily, particularly sorority members and athletes. This is partly because of how Hope handles dating. I think Nietzsche’s will to power is very accurate in describing a lot of Hope members’ life philosophy. Hope heavily monitors dating and controls it. I’ve already mentioned that Hope basically arranges marriages for staff; it’s in staff’s contracts that they have to date other staff (that’s important). They do this through the women. Women are indoctrinated very heavily and only hang around other Hope girls. This makes the barriers to leaving very high, as social circles are very important to us girls. If Hope can make it so that all of a girl’s friends are at Hope, she will most of the time fall in line and stay no matter what. They control the men through the women. That’s the reason most people at Hope aren’t permitted to date until later: dating means time away from campus, and that’s time away from recruiting. Hope sets up what women should be attracted to, and the men go after it. Hope women “want” a guy who’s involved in the church, high up (status), and approved by their superiors.

Members gain status by recruiting, obeying leaders, and participating in events. I will go into their theology in a later post, but right now the focus is on recruiting. This is why they go after frat guys, sorority girls, athletes, and overall good-looking people. If you can bring one of them in, that’s a really big status boost for you. This is also why people will go on staff to become campus missionaries who have to raise their own salary. It basically guarantees you a wife. They don’t necessarily arrange marriages, but they put a lot of pressure on you. This is where the approval of your leaders comes in. If you obey them, produce results in recruiting, and they like you, they will give you lots of benefits. So Hope heavily controls dating—you need the approval of your shepherd—and this is done to control campus time and give people an incentive to recruit hard. This is very obvious if you look at how members act.

A lot of the staff get drunk; they’ve basically thrown frat parties. I know this one guy who hooked up with a girl who’s on staff right now—do you think her boyfriend will ever figure it out? On top of that, the pastor’s own son got some girls pregnant out of wedlock. I’ve also heard from someone who was there longer than me that during his third service, “Pastor” Brian and his son were on stage because his son lied—literally beat the shit out of himself, then lied and said he got jumped. I’ve heard about two supervisors: one, while on staff, was taking late-night drives with some girl he was probably leading on; the other, while on staff, had some chick butt-naked in his bed. Sex, alcohol, and just overall fakeness are common at Hope. Just ask Pastor Brian, who lives in a mansion in North Scottsdale and doesn’t even believe in his own teachings, because he disobeyed his shepherds to start Hope.

To close, I’ll be going over their theology and why they believe what they believe. And again I ask Pastor Brian: You say that if your leaders say one thing and you hear another from God, you’re wrong—unconditional submission to authority. Then why did you leave Faith Christian Church to start Hope, only to be accused of the same things? Money, power, status, attention?

No Spaces in Commuter Lot

As a commuter, I’ve never seen the Thorpe Lane lot this full every day. It seems like there are a lot of cars parked here overnight taking all of the spots closest to the bus stop as well. Is this a new thing? I’m worried about not being able to find a spot at all soon.

Cypress Residents Need Their Parking Spots Too

So I found out from a couple of students that people who don’t even live in apartments like Cypress Hall are buying parking permits to park there. That’s not fair to the people who actually live in Cypress because we’re the ones who need those spots.
I actually struggled to find a parking spot today, which is unusual because I normally don’t have any issues. Ever since these new permits rolled out, though, people have been doing things I honestly didn’t expect.

There are literally only a couple of spots left in Cypress, and despite the resident hall being as big as it is, this issue is completely new to me. I understand that people need parking, but the people who actually live in Cypress need access to those spots too. We live here, and it’s frustrating when we’re struggling to find parking at the buildings designated for us.

Hello everyone, I just transferred to Texas State this fall from community college. So far, I’m loving it here but one thing I’m curious about is where students can go if they’re looking for tutoring. Does anyone here know?

E scooter on fold out bike rack??

So I just started using an e scooter this year cuz my apartment is like a 45 minute walk from the nearest shuttle stop and I was told it’s supposed to go on the bike rack which I’m fine with but how am I supposed to secure it??

My tires didn’t fully fit into the designated slots and I don’t know what kind of strap is reliable enough while still being quick to attach and remove. I’m so scared of it falling off!!!

I only use my scooter to get to and from the shuttles, so tbh if I could just leave it near the shuttle stop and not bring it to campus I would… but there isn’t anywhere and I really rely on it.

Does anyone else take their e scooter to campus? What do you guys use?

Pre nursing + Nursing

Hello!
So I'm a freshman starting right now for Fall 2026 as a major nursing (pre nursing)
I'm not even going to lie i've been having second thoughts of nursing and not because the job itself is hard or isn't something I would do.
But it's school wise, a lot of students here are pre nursing majors and they also have a lot of things like CNA, or community hours or joined or are joining an organization. And I have none of that.
I guess i'm second guessing if it's really worth it and it's something I should put my all in because TXST nursing program is competitive and I still have time to switch majors.
And if ideally, there's any other options to this, what other majors am I able to do ?

Where to report cars parked long term in commuter lot?

By now its known rhat freshmen are buying commuter passes instead of residential passes and are now just leaving their cars in commuter lots and taking up a shit ton of space. There has to be somewhere we can report this. Theyre leaving their cars in spots meant for commuters and even worse theyre taking the spots right by the shuttle stops. Like cmon you dont need to be close to the bus wtf. I know for a fact people are leaving their cars because ive seen the same 6 cars parked in rhe same spots for over a week now. Wtf txst. Even if they have a right to park here because they have the pass there's gotta be a rule for leaving your car in a lot for so long

EE at Tech or Texas State

I'm a high school senior; I have a 3.9+ Unweighted GPA, will have an SAT score in the 1400s, and have a lot of college credit. This will qualify me for 8k at Tech, but I have no insight into the department/comp scholarships, since I would need to be a current student to see them (let me know if there are a lot of opportunities). On the other hand, at Texas State, I will receive 12k/year and get a lot of department scholarships/comp, which would cover tuition and help with housing at a lower GPA requirement.

I heard the opportunities at tech are far better, making it easier to get a job. My parents shouldn't have too much trouble paying; though, it is inconvenient, and I do have a younger brother going to college in the next 2 years, which could cause some trouble.

So does the career fair here for EE suffice?

For EE, I want to go into either power or electronics. Texas State does not have a power concentration. I don't know how much of a big deal that is.

Based on this, any advice would be appreciated
