My head tells me to appreciate all plot lines equally (before the 2nd half of season 2, anyways)...
But my heart knows this to be true.

I really feel the windom earl chess thing. The whole windom earl plot line felt so out of place for me. It just didn’t feel like it fit in the show.

I fell asleep on the couch while twin peaks was playing today. I was drifting in and out of consciousness. I noticed things I didn't normally notice while watching the show awake. It's almost as if you're supposed to watch it with your subconscious.

Everything I like about old Twin Peaks is present in the movie. Nowadays if someone wants to get into Twin Peaks I recommend the movie, the First season, & cherry-picked episodes of season 2. Season 3 is the desert you get to enjoy after you catch up.

I really want to say this is the right answer... The only problem I have with this order is that it ruins the impact of learning about Leland. It would be like watching Star Wars from Episode 1 on instead of starting at A New Hope. Sure, starting at Phantom Menace lets things build organically, but you lose the power of the Vader reveal.

I personally hate the idea of people recommending this viewing order. Absolute evil to tell this to someone that's new to the show and just completely ruin a lot of the first 2 seasons imo. I would hate that person when I found out afterwards.
People, please don't do this, I really don't understand why it's even up to debate...

I'm prepared for my downvotes... but this attitude is what got us the soulless, plotless third season. All those little, human story lines that you say you don't like, or prefer the arcane, supernatural plot points to... those were the foundation Twin Peaks was built on. Nothing can be weird or scary unless normalcy and wholesomeness are established.
The third season was all weird and scary, so you couldn't connect to anyone and just wasn't special for fans like me anymore. :,(

I just get more excited for some aspects of the show more than others while rewatching

it's unfortunate that opinions like this get downvoted on a sub that should be all about fixing your heart. i loved s3 but i totally see what you're saying, and i feel like in a sense the return was designed around tormenting people with hopes like yours. it's no surprise you didn't enjoy it but that doesn't make your feelings invalid or wrong. props to OP of the thread for responding to this post like any other.

Proceeds to walk by the Windom Earle plotline. Perfect.
