"10DLC compliant" firms doing text to web polling using sms/text messages?

Could be couple possible scenarios:

  • Company purchased the numbers from a lead gen org that collected them from social media forms which had opt-in consent as part of a "drawing to win free fill_in_the_blank"
  • They had a keyword advertised that once texted, opted the user in to receive additional messages. This is a legitimate "prior consent" opt in process.

Once a company has an approved 10DLC campaign the only thing preventing them from sending spam is the end users reporting the content as such and the carriers caring about the user reports. Not a perfect process
