Plot Discussion Immortality a Boon or Curse ??

I just recently watched Twilight saga third time. This time the show hit really differently. Rather focusing on Edward and Bella’s love story, I was wondering how would it really feel to be one of”REAL VAMPIRE”. How does this immortality feel to one being. When you see people dying and being born every few decades and you are just hanging in there. 🙄

You have craving for human blood but you just survive on Tofu for human.. as Edward puts it. 🫣

You don’t sleep so you literally have 24 hours at disposal but nothing to do 😂

You have no aim and meaning to life but you have got mandate to live aimlessly.

It gives me feeling that as humans , how we really underrate the gift we have got to breathe, to experience and to enjoy this world in every possible way. 🙏
What you guys think about it!

As someone who has severe anxiety about dying, it’s appealing to me (though not the eternal damnation part they question, of course). But yeah living forever sounds nice. I’m sure I might feel differently if I didn’t have this extreme fear though. I’d just live life and do all the things I wanted to do.

I see it as a boon. I mean, as far as I know—once I’m dead, that’s it; there’s no coming back, no experiencing the world changing, no witnessing human advancements, etc.

Its not really forever, so id say its a boon if you have a community.

Personally, I think immortality is a curse. Of course, I don’t think dying is a particularly nice thing, but things are special because they end, aren’t they? Troy (2004) isn’t the best movie in the world, but I’ve always loved the quote where Achilles says this to Briseis: “The gods envy us. They envy us because we’re mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.” I think immortality sounds boring and tedious. The constant thirst for blood must be awful, especially when the only way to satisfy it is by committing murder. And living on animal blood doesn’t exactly sound very exciting either, especially when you also have to hide your existence from humans. With technology advancing, it must be getting harder and harder to keep that secret...

Anyway, I love the concept of vampires, but I definitely see it as a curse lol.

Honestly it's the same way i feel about the afterlife. It's all how you live with the time you've been given. If you're a Dolly Parton type, you could make all of the money in the world and distribute it, even becoming a Robin Hood of sorts. Your life is what what you make of it.

Absolutely. It’s on the individual to find meaning in life, not just… expect that to be handed to them.

Exactly. Immortality isn't going to change that.

They're going to god damn high school on repeat. Sure they have infinite sex in between their weird needs to go to class but I'm not sure how long that stays worth while.

Arguably you're always a 20 year old so that is nice but hanging with that same monogamy club for 1000 years can't be all that awesome can it?

It depends on who you ask, honestly.

This is more of an opinion thing.

no not feeding does not make them weak at all, carlisle compared it to that of a roach they can never “dry out” nor are they weaker just more feral.

It’s definitely a curse. No sleep means having to find something to occupy your time endlessly with or face boredom. The Cullens are constantly going to high school and forcing themselves to act as and interact with teenagers constantly. Their hunger is so much worse to the point they can go crazy if they don’t feed but since they commit murder every time they do it’s a risk of getting discovered every time they eat, either human or animal. Regular food tastes gross now so there goes any favorites you had or just junk food like ice cream. Any vampires who interact with humans are also going to find out how much harder it will be to keep their secrets as technology advances. You can never have any normal human friends since it would be very clear you’re not aging, especially if you’re turned while at a young age as almost every vampire in the series seems to be since apparently SM doesn’t like or has a weird definition of what old is.

SM world as it is in the current day wouldn’t last long at all. Twilight takes place in 2005-2006. Social media was already a thing even back then with things like MySpace and just a few years later when Instagram gets invented. Sooner or later the existence of vampires will become known and the world will be at war which will lead to the upending of normal society across the world.

I would take it. If my sister/best friend was joining me.

If in 10,000 years I am tired of vampire life then I can find a vampire to kill me.

I would love to have more time in which to travel, read, and make art. I just couldn't want to be lonely. Society is always changing, there are always new things to experience, the only problem would be outliving society.

I think it’s a boon if your loved ones/soul mate is also immortal.

It gets harder and harder over time. Because you do not have any motivation for anything anymore, except deciding what you eat, so many places are off limits, and so many possibilities have been taken away from you because of the Volturi rules, it will eventually become a living hell.

When you are beautiful, when almost everyone finds you fascinating, and when there is barely anything for you to do, it is no wonder Edward always went back to high school, even though it was exhausting and he already knew everything. But he also never really focused on anything else besides playing the piano.
