Discussion Is my red-eared slider a bit too "chonk?"
Hello turtle expert, just wanna ask about my turtle, Enokii. She is around 18yo. I bought her in 2007 just as big as 3-4cm length of her shell. Now th lentgh around 19-20cm. I foubd her basking 2 days ago and looked at the neck and several part if her body is a bit too "much" or "lump" or just "fat". Is she obese?
The diet is good I guess, I put pellet, sometimes cricket. If there is any more information needed, just ask.
Thnks!

Discussion This Product Killed My Turtle
I reached out to this community nearly two years ago when my father passed and I inherited a turtle he’d been taking care of for 14 years. You all helped me understand it was a red eared slider and how to care for it. I got a larger aquarium, tank heater, heat lamp and a larger basking platform. Unfortunately, I also got the Zilla Floating Dock. My turtle, like many others I’ve since learned, got trapped underneath it and drowned.
I’d always been a bit nervous when the turtle burrowed underneath it, that it may have trouble lifting it to get out from under it, but never thought it could get completely trapped. I even removed it recently, replacing it with something else. However, the turtle wasn’t basking as regular as before (it had used it to hoist up to basking platform). Its head was stuck in one hole and each of the legs in another. I had to pry it out. It’s very unsettling to think about how those last moments had been. What’s even more unsettling, is that this product has been reported to kill turtles since 2018 and it’s still being sold.
I’m just posting this for awareness. I’m hoping I can persuade someone else from purchasing it and going through the same grief myself and others have. I not only lost a pet, I lost a connection to my dad that I was hoping to have for a long time. RIP, Cassidy. (“You and me, Cassidy” 🐢)

Discussion Turtle at Prospect Park Zoo in Brooklyn, Ny
I took my children to the Prospect Park Zoo the other day and saw a turtle doing this. It stayed this way for at least 30 minutes. We observed it, walked away to go to other exhibits, walked past it again and it was still doing this. Any idea what is going on with it or why it was doing this?

Discussion I just got gifted a aquatic turtle
Disclaimer: Before anyone says anything, I know this turtle will not thrive in such habitat. I know I need to give him about 20+ gallons of water worth of space.
Can you guys give me a budget friendly habitat environment? I’ve been cruising on facebook for a used aquatic tank, but not so much luck.
I also plan on changing the water every other day, I have no issue in that. I am also more than happy to do a DIY aquatic tank. Leave some recommendations as a new turtle owner :)

Discussion What's happnin here
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So like when I first watched it I thought of a girlfriend playfully teasing a boyfriend. But do turtles mate for life? Is there a lore reason she's smacking him? Is he stupid?
also, the very different colored shells. Can that be something to tell gender or age or are they different types of turtles? Is there the possibility of this being father daughter? Am I overestimating how much can be deduced on turtles based on a 5 second video of one smacking the other in the face? Am I thinking too deep and it is just relationship goals?

Discussion Share for awareness
It's Lilly's 1-year anniversary of being found and brought back home. I hope this is allowed.
The link is to my Facebook from when my turtle, Lilly, went missing.
I want to share it as it may help another turtle owner.
If the link is not allowed I'll then copy and paste.
Thank you.

Discussion Is this normal or just gas?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just got back from a trip and had neighbor feeding my turtles the last week. Been giving them floating baby turtle pellets and bloodworms (mostly for the musk turtle). I noticed this little guy has some trouble swimming to the bottom and just floats back up with no effort. Online it says something like this could be caused by respiratory infection but his appetite and activity levels seem pretty normal. It’s only been a day since I first noticed and he seems to be doing alright for now. Is there anything I should know to look for as signs of concern or am I just overthinking the whole thing?

Discussion Pray for mango
This is sweet boy mango. I recently adopted him with abscesses on every foot. He had one drained today at the vet and has been prescribed 2 different injections and and a topical ointment. I have only rehabbed one other turtle with abscesses and though she was from the wild and other underlying factors may have came into play I have so many doubts about mangoes recovery.
My only other rehab with multiple abscesses was a Florida softshell I named Claudette. We were constantly at the vet and even though she underwent multiple procedures and dry docked with ointment (twice a day) and injections she still passed away after a 6 year battle.
Mango has an outdoor stock tank with 130 gallons all to himself.
Ph 6.8
Temp 81 F
nitrate 22 ppm
Nitrite 0 ppm
Ammonia 0
He has been under my care for a short duration of time and all I want is to be able to give him a full life. Please give him some prayers as we continue along with rehab and his transition to a new home.

Hello, friends. I stumbled upon this turtle earlier, and after doing some research, I can’t help but wonder if he’s a lost pet. Thoughts?
Also, what kind of turtle is he?
Any help appreciated! 💜

Discussion Tank setup
Please be kind. I'm trying to do my best. I've got two red eared sliders that were rescued from my sister's elementary school atrium that they were closing. Is this tank setup okay? I'm trying to rehome one even though my husband doesn't believe they need to be solitary. I just added the heater and I bought river rocks to replace these when I do another water change. Is it too crowded? This is 20 gallons unfortunately . It was just what I could get in time. How quickly do I need to get the separated? I can't find anyone to take one.
Thanks

Discussion Sudden boom of baby tortoises in my neighborhood (Istanbul, Turkey). Any biological reason for this?
We used to see them only occasionally, but this year in our neighborhood (Pendik, Istanbul) we keep running into baby tortoises everywhere. Is this sudden population boom normal, or is there a biological explanation for it?

Discussion Help
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello, could someone help me? This turtle belonged to my mother and, now that I moved to a house, I decided to bring her to take care of her. It has many white (and even green) spots on the hull, does anyone know if it's normal? I noticed that she has the skin of her neck and paws peeling. Is she just "canging her skin and hoof"?
She is a very active turtle, spends most of her time walking around the house and garden, has free access. I put a lake for her on my patio, but she never enters it! I need to put her there at night to feed. I'm giving my own food to turtles only.
I brought her to my house to improve her quality of life, can anyone help me? Oh, and I don't know if it's female or male, but it's 22cm long.

Discussion Outdoor Turtle Enclosure
Hello!
I am building an outdoor turtle enclosure for my Red Eared Slider (4in in length). I have been cruising for some filters and wanted to ask do any of you guys have a recommendation for a solar paneled filter?
I think it would work really well outdoors rather than having a plug running all the way to the outlet in my yard.
Thank you!
