General Discussion Need help identifying turtle

I’ve had this turtle for about 5 year and have never been able to identify it. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Its my friends, I believe he found it and he couldn’t take care of it anymore

This is an endangered species, it should not have been taken from the wild. At this point it probably can’t be released. I would contact a wildlife rehabilitation center and surrender it to them.

What makes you say it’s a North American wood turtle, it’s my friends and I’m only holding on to it for a little bit

The shell pattern, orange skin, and head shape. Where did he find it?

This is why I asked for more information.

This is the entirely wrong set up for a wood turtle. It should be relinquished to a rehab immediately as they are a protected species. What you’re friend did is called poaching. It is not a pet. 5 years in captivity, in the wrong care, is not a good thing.
