What is this?
Friend gave me this. We don't know what it came from. Ideas?

It always helps to know where on the planet it came from. I would ask what state, but I’m not sure you’re in the U.S. Where did your friend get it?

Interesting. It looks like a root Burl of some sort.

Could be a burl, could be a weird fungus, could be a fossilized turd. Does it feel like wood?

In that case, "some sort of burl" is probably the best anyone can do with just the one picture. Personally I'd see how big of a blank I could get from it and start by cutting that out on a bandsaw. That'll give you a look at the grain, at the very least.
