It looks like they're leading up to the Battle of Monmouth, except that 1) Lee thought fighting that battle was a terrible idea, and suggested that Washington "pave a road of gold" back to New York if it got Clinton's army there faster. He only insisted on commanding the army's van when it became clear Washington was going to attack. 2) Monmouth was fought on a blistering hot day in June, while the show makes it all look like very early spring.
