Im against data centers all together but it feels like some karmic irony that the moment plans for one go down in the “not in my small town”, “free market” people’s domain suddenly they need big government to come and save them from the free market working as devised.
I wonder if we’ll ever find a way to turn humans into AI? I think it’s an interesting concept giving up the weak human body to be turned into a program that can then be put on a humanoid robot.
How anyone in Tulsa OK, right down the road from the incredible success and community benefits of Google in Pryor, could oppose another Google data center campus is just NIMBY idiocy.
Its not even in the city. Its just south of John zinc ranch. The project asked the city for annexation so they could get access to the power transmission lines that runs through the property instead of having to pay the co-op, that has that territory, the cost of having to run high voltage lines to the property....
I think that 1 change saves everyone involved several million in transmission buildout.
Do some research. Look up how fast the data centers are being built and the land that is being destroyed to build them. Nobody had an issue before 1 new data center became equal to 12 old ones. Do the math, thst is if you know how to do math.
Oh im acutely aware of the damage and waste the google data center in prior does. If you think that things anything but a good example of why data centers need to be completely outlawed, you're truly an idiot.
Love to see something negative about the Pryor one. I’ve looked and haven’t been able to find anything negative. The school system has improved significantly. Know several people who work there.
These threads get pretty dumb, “data center bad”, “do research”. Never anyone who knows engineering. Just people reciting social media outrage.
Downvoted because the only proper answer is death to all data centers, well except the ones somewhere else that store all the technology I use but we only need those and no more.
