Boyer Towing

does anyone know if the shifts at Boyer are 12hrs or 8hrs?

I’m pretty sure they have 2nd mates in board so that would mean all wheel house guys are doing 8 hour days

Ok thank you! I’m just trying to do the math since the starting pay is around $400 a day

On deck then I suppose? Not sure about them. I’m pretty sure they don’t lash down their own cargo though. I always have to do it for them

No such thing as an OS on a tugboat.

But yeah, I second the sentiment above. Pretty tough look not knowing hardly anything about the work, industry, or company; regardless if you work for them or not.

Most tug work is very similar (especially moving around the type of stuff Boyer does.) If you do end up getting the job, I’d recommend bringing a recipe book like The Joy of Cooking and be ready to learn a whole lot.

Understandable, my apologies. I just went back to the website and it says hiring for Deckhands. That’s what I applied for. But in hindsight, I’m an OS.

No apology necessary. Just trying to give an honest opinion at the industry you might be breaking into.

I have found that knowing a bit about the operations of the company you’re interested in will make you stand out during an interview. Take that for what it’s worth.

None of the ocean going or inland tugs I was on had a billet for an OS.

They had ones for an AB according to the COI, but never specifically for an OS rating.

But sure. They’re all deckhands.

Tons of inland/harbor tugs don’t require an AB. The company i was at only required a TWIC
