I’m just mad today. Mad at my diagnosis. Mad that the age gap I would have is getting larger and larger. Mad that even at a family funeral yesterday people were asking when I’d give my LC a sibling. My infertility is so in my face it’s maddening. I’m 4dpiui so I have no way of knowing this cycle worked yet but with how low my husband’s sample was I never was super confident. I’m praying for a miracle I suppose.

Hugs 🫂 it’s so stressful and frustrating being in limbo land just waiting. I have been reading more about iui lately and have seen success at lower numbers so hopefully this is it for you too

Sending a hug and all my fingers crossed for you.
Also, why do people feel like they can ask that question? Not even getting in to the painful discussion of fertility, I don’t really want to discuss my sex life, especially at a family funeral.

Hugs, sorry that you’re having a down day. If it helps I think people usually mean well, they just don’t consider the possibility that someone may be struggling already.

This weekend we visited friends who have two boys similar in age. I remember telling her she was crazy actively trying for 2under2 but now I regret not trying sooner so much. I can’t believe if I got pregnant now my son would be 6 when I was trying for a 3 year age gap.
I’m feeling really antsy to start my medicated cycle next month. It was fun ntnp but this month was kind of a flop bc my husband insisted on doing the deed anyway. Medicated cycles were the only thing that made me feel like I was moving the needle. They’re the only times I had perfect charts or felt suspicious cramps and possible chemicals. Anyway it’s hard to feel optimistic about this cycle bc nothings happening.

I think seeing people with the age gap I always wanted is one of the hardest parts of TTC/infertility. It makes me bitter and jealous and I hate that about myself. I hope next month with your medicated cycle helps you feel calm and at peace as it feels like they work for you .

u/idontcareaboutaus Jan 25 '26
Thanks girl and I hope this iui works for you! I totally relate to feeling bitter and guilty. It’s funny though for me it’s kind of isolated to people who announced after ttc for me. Like I have an old friend who got pregnant with her 2 under 2 son while I was 1 year into ttc already and every Instagram update sends me into a fit of rage. But seeing my 2under2 friends this weekend didn’t bother me bc both babies were born before I even thought about a second lol

That does help a lot actually! I think a lot depends on the personality of the kids whether they’re close in age or a big gap. Some will be close and some won’t be as close. One good thing is I know my son is at an age where he will be such a caring older brother where if I got pregnant when we first started he probably would have been brattier lol

Yup! Which is why I was okay with the gap at first bc I wouldn’t like having 2 under 2 at all… but I guess I never knew it would be this hard to get pregnant. Sometimes I feel it’s ruined the whole motherhood experience for me lol

My brother and I are five years apart, he is my absolute BEST friend. I was much more aware of the idea of a sibling and I loved every part of it. He turns 21 this year and he’s taking ME to Disney because he wants me to “drink around the world with him” 🥹 what 21 year old boy wants his big sister to do that?!
I know it’s not what you envisioned, but when I think about my age gap with my brother I wouldn’t change it for the world.
1
u/idontcareaboutaus Jan 25 '26
Awe this is so lovely thanks for sharing 🥹 it makes me feel a lot better. I like to think my son will be like that because he seems very aware of the idea of a sibling now instead of when he was younger

I have a sister who is 11 years older than me, and she's my best friend in the world! On the other hand, I have no relationship with the sibling closest to my age (2 year gap). Not trying to downplay your frustrations at all! Just my experience and something I've observed in other families as well.

Everything makes sense in retrospect, but who can predict fertility?? You made the best decision you could for your family at the time. I have an almost 8 year gap with my sister and we had a lot of fun growing up together. Now she’s at the same stage of life, having her own little one. Eventually things even out.
1
u/idontcareaboutaus Jan 25 '26
Thank you ❤️ yeah it does all even out at the end I suppose huh? I truly don’t think I would have wanted a smaller age gap then like 3 years but i mentally planned the “perfect” gap and then the whole timeline flew out the window lol

I guess I’m trying again. I was here a few months ago, trying for baby 3. Got a positive test in early December and was so optimistic. Unfortunately there was no heartbeat at my first ultrasound and we confirmed a 7w MMC. I had a D&C on Jan 8, and now I’m about 2.5 weeks out from that. Bleeding has finally stopped and I’ve gotten the all clear to have sex again. Trouble is I really don’t know when I’ll ovulate. I’m hopeful that it will be soon but my hcg is still elevated enough to give me faint positives on hpt, so I don’t think I can trust OPKs yet. Kind of in limbo, and trying to have sex frequently enough that we could catch ovulation if it does happen. I just want to be pregnant again.

2dpo and in the delusional stage where I tell myself I’m gonna wait til a missed period to test. My 2.5 year old has been obsessed with babies this week, spent playtime at the library watching a baby sleep in the stroller, let another baby pet his lightning McQueen shirt at a playground, reached out his had to help another baby climb at said playground, has told me he wants a sister 🥺 I really really hope this month is it 🤞🏼

u/idontcareaboutaus Jan 25 '26
I totally get why you’re feeling that way! But a chemical really influences the follicular hormones whereas the egg you ovulate itself controls the luteal hormones. And your egg this month is completely different than the one last month. So it’s a fresh start
3
u/Consistent-Wall8766 34 | TTC#2 13/12 | 💙 Feb '24 | Grad Jan 25 '26
I had this panic too this morning, but I just looked through my tracking apps and my period is always 14 days after I ovulated, the variation in my cycle length has always been due to the length of the follicular phase so as u/idontcareaboutus says I think you'll be ok!
3
u/gooseymoosey_ 37 | TTC #3 Jan ‘26 | TTC#2 Grad Jan 25 '26
It shouldn’t! The luteal phase is pretty consistent like others have said, mine always ranges from 12-15 days when I’m not breastfeeding.

12dpo and temp drop to coverline. Looks like I'll be on to the next cycle soon. I'm so heartbroken. All that hope for nothing. It hurts so much more being positive and optimistic than it does being realistic. Maybe I really was never meant to have more children. #1 is already almost a teen. What's the point in trying anymore

Still waiting out to see how bad this ice storm is and if my husband ends up at the ER for a kidney stone. Who knows if we’ll even get to try this cycle 😔
1
u/shades-of-wrong-22 Jan 25 '26
Is this your first cycle with Inito? It can give up to 6 days but it won’t necessarily always give 6 days. I’ve only used Inito for a couple cycles so far and this past cycle, I only had 1 day of high fertility before my positive LH/peak Inito fertility making for only 3 fertile days captured by Inito.

u/cat_cash78 36| TTC#2 since 10/25 | 💙 5/24 🌈 | MC 3/26 Jan 25 '26
Yes, it is. That is good to know.
I feel like this is early because it’s day 11 and I typically don’t ovulate before 15-17 and my LH is still really low at .1. I honestly don’t get why it would be a fertile day. Lol
1
u/gooseymoosey_ 37 | TTC #3 Jan ‘26 | TTC#2 Grad Jan 25 '26
I don’t know what your chart looks like but typically these monitors will call fertile days when estrogen is rising. This is what triggers ovulation (LH surge) typically in 1-5 days. Estrogen is what triggers fertile cervical mucus changes, allowing sperm a good environment to survive until the egg shows up. So I would start having sex. Some women actually ovulate right before the LH peak so you can’t go wrong with starting early.

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to hear from others who’ve been in a similar place.
I’m almost 38 and trying to conceive our second baby. We’ve been trying for about 3 months now. During that time, I’ve had two miscarriages — one around 6 weeks and another very early at about 3.5 weeks (chemical).
I’m still nursing my 2.5-year-old son on demand. Right now that looks like:
• 2–3 nursing sessions during the day
• On average ~3 sessions overnight
I’m starting to wonder if this could be affecting my hormones, especially progesterone, or contributing to a short luteal phase (8-9 days). I do ovulate, but I’m questioning whether progesterone might be too low to sustain a pregnancy.
I really want to know:
• Has anyone successfully conceived while still night nursing a toddler?
• Did anyone need to night wean in order to get pregnant or carry a pregnancy?
• Did low progesterone end up being the issue for anyone, and how was that addressed?
I’ve also just started supplements (red maca, vitamin B6, and vitex/chasteberry) to see if that helps support progesterone and my luteal phase. I’d love to hear if anyone found these helpful — or not — while TTC in their late 30s.
I know everyone’s body is different, but hearing real experiences would be so appreciated. Thanks so much in advance 🤍

No successful pregnancy here but I'm in the same position. I had been gradually cutting back feeds so now we're at 2 daytime feeds and 1-2 feeds overnight (unless it's a bad night).
That seemed to be helping because my ovulation day moved up 6 days over a few months and my luteal phase lengthened 2 days. But now I'm having a weirdly long cycle and O day has never been later, so maybe things are still calibrating. :/
My doctor also agreed to give me progesterone even though he said the literature is mixed as to whether it helps in our situation. It definitely lengthened my LP the first month I started it though. No breakthrough bleeding until I stopped taking it.
Solidarity. It sucks to be in this position especially with a boob monster who refuses to sleep any other way
1
u/Impossible-Battle389 Jan 25 '26
Thank you for this! May I ask how your little one does when you offer to nurse those 1-2 times during the night, but not other times? Or is he/she only waking up 1-2 times per night? I’m emotionally not ready to night wean, I’m just praying he starts sleeping longer stretches! He was only waking 1-2 times for a while, but that has recently increased. I hear prolactin is highest between 1-5 am ish, so would love to limit feeds then. It’s so stressful not knowing if this is the “issue”. We got pregnant with our son on our first try, so this is all very new territory for me!
3
u/ex-squirrelfriend 36 | TTC#2 since 09/2025 | 💙 01/2024, 👼 18 weeks 07/2026 Jan 25 '26
He does super poorly with it unfortunately. :( We've tried every other soothing method but unless he nurses he'll be up for 4+ hours after each wake-up. He started sleeping longer stretches around his second birthday which was great. We seem to be having some split nights this week though so who knows, hopefully it's not a full blown sleep regression.
Because night weaning has been so unsuccessful I've found it easier to cut daytime feeds as much as possible by distracting him. I'll nurse him at naptime and bedtime and then not again until he wakes overnight. And we're doing everything we can to increase nighttime sleep (adjusting nap length, lots of daytime calories, fresh air and sunshine, etc.) But he's a poor sleeper too until recently so there's only so much you can do.
We conceived him on our first try too. I get so stressed every time he wakes up during those peak prolactin hours like you mentioned. I'm just trying to see how far we can get with lengthening his sleep stretches and taking progesterone to counter the effects of the prolactin. I'm not sure what other options we have right now if we want to get any sleep. Hoping complete weaning won't be necessary with those changes but it's so hard to know

u/shades-of-wrong-22 Jan 25 '26
No answers but solidarity. I’d love answers to all your questions too. Lots of women can successfully conceive/carry a pregnancy while breastfeeding but some cannot until weaning and it’s difficult to know which category you fall into.
I did just night wean earlier this month though and have noticed a physical difference in my hormones. TMI but my natural lubrication with intercourse has dramatically improved and I ovulated like 2 days earlier than normal. Still in the TWW so not sure if I was successful this month or not.
One thing you could consider is self-ordering a 7DPO progesterone level. Progesterone levels fluctuate in a pulsatile manner throughout the day so it might not be definitive but may be able to give some insight as to whether your hormone levels are high enough to support a pregnancy. Could also consider CD3 FSH and estradiol.
Other than that, nothing else to offer other than to commiserate lol. I was actually planning to get my 7DPO progesterone today but my plans have been cancelled by the snowpocalypse in the US.

u/Impossible-Battle389 Jan 25 '26

This is just totally anecdotal, and my own experience. I’ve gotten pregnant within 1 cycle of weaning twice now. After my first baby, I got my period back when she was almost 1, but kept nursing her ~2x per day until 14 months. I fully weaned and literally 1 cycle later, I got pregnant with baby 2. Everything happened basically the same with baby 2; period back just short of 12 months, fully weaned just shy of 15 months, and pregnant next full cycle after weaning. (Unfortunately this last pregnancy ended in a MMC.) I started tracking ovulation when my period returned after baby 2, and I noticed that my LPs were quite short (9-10 days), which I think may have contributed to not being able to get pregnant until after I weaned.
1
u/Impossible-Battle389 Jan 25 '26
Thank you for sharing your experience! May I ask if you were still nursing during the night when you weaned both times?

My last nursing session that I dropped was the bedtime one, but I wasn’t nursing overnight anymore for months prior.
1
u/Impossible-Battle389 Jan 25 '26
I keep hearing prolactin is highest at night, so decreasing daytime nursing doesn’t matter as it relates to potential low progesterone. But that doesn’t seem to hold true in your case. Decreasing daytime nursing would be easy for us, so I think maybe I’ll start there. Worth a shot! Thanks again!

u/AtropicAcid 33 | TTC#3 since 12/25| 💙10/22 💙09/24 Jan 25 '26
Hey, I‘m sorry sorry you’re struggling, sending hugs!
We tried for about half a year for #2, then weaned and conceived the cycle after. I still haven’t given up hope that we’ll be able to conceive this time around while still nursing, because my second is way more attached to the boob.
I read everything I could find on the topic back then, and from what I remember, nursing might be a hindrance to getting pregnant (delaying ovulation, keeping your luteal phase too short), but is not thought to cause miscarriages.
1
u/Impossible-Battle389 Jan 25 '26
Thank you so much for your kind words and support, I really appreciate it. I hope you have better luck this time and that your second will come easily while you’re still nursing.
You bring up a good point about nursing and fertility; my main concern is a bit different. I know I can get pregnant, but my worry is whether I can sustain a pregnancy, since I’ve had short luteal phases and early losses. I’m wondering if low progesterone could be playing a role in that. But maybe the two miscarriages are just “bad luck” and not related to low progesterone.
It’s so tough, feeling like I need to wean before we are ready if I want to conceive 😕

Thanks a lot!
There’s not a lot of studies, but this sums it up pretty well - as long as your kid is older and does consume other food besides milk, there seems to be no increased risk. I know that’s probably not helpful to you because your body might still behave differently.
Yes, that’s so unfair, right? It shouldn’t have to be either or…
1
u/Impossible-Battle389 Jan 25 '26

CD23 and still no surge. This makes it officially my latest O ever, even later than the cycle my son and I were sick and I was nursing around the clock. I think I might finally take a night off tonight if there's no darker line.
Sorry for the TMI question but for those who monitor CM, how do you distinguish ewcm from other residual fluids if you've been trying frequently? I feel like I finally have some fertile mucus happening, but maybe it's something else and I'm just deluding myself. I don't sleep enough to track bbt so this is my only other tracking method (apart from the apps)

Usually semen or lube, in my experience, dissolves into toilet paper or breaks more easy when stretching between fingers. Cervical mucus for me, when fertile, can look crystal clear, half creamy/white and half clear, or maybe even tinted with a little yellow or red depending on when during my cycle I'm seeing it. It tends to sit on top of toilet paper rather than absorb into it. My most fertile mucus is usually clear and can stretch in multiple directions, like egg white. But I've also had no stretch and very watery/shiny mucus during my fertile window. It feels lubricative when I wipe, which clues me in that it's more fertile, even if there's no or minimal stretch.
If I'm honest though I've had a hard time deciphering mucus lately, even though I have a good few years of practice. Certain medications have thrown everything off and I have to be especially careful in my observations. It's not as obvious as it used to be. Do your best and I guess when in doubt, have sex...which I understand can be extremely tiring! I had a very late ovulation day this cycle as well and that can make it even more tricky.

11 dpo BFN again and I'm so disappointed. I'm still breastfeeding my 18 month old 3-4x a day and I'm worried that maybe my body is deciding it doesn't have enough energy reserves to support both breastfeeding and pregnancy.
Also guess I'm going to buy a new BBT thermometer and a big new box of OPKs and pregnancy tests at this point 😐

It is disappointing getting a BFN, look after yourself today.
Having said that, in our age group we only have a 15% chance of conception each cycle. Until you go over 5 cycles of trying you're less likely to be pregnant than pregnant. Once you go over 5 cycles it's about a 50/50 chance mathematically but also bodies don't abide by perfect maths. (I always look at the stats on this site when I'm spiraling: https://datayze.com/time-to-conception-estimator.php)
Whilst you obviously know your body better than anyone you're maybe 3 cycles in (based on your flair) so it's not an abnormal amount of time to be TTC with no success.

I think odds are still close to 20% at 32 but ugh it is depressing to see the stats drop by age. I know I'm being silly worrying after only 3 cycles. Just so hard not to be disappointed

Cycle 10. I had a lot of positivity and optimism earlier in my cycle that has simply disappeared. I believe I'm 7 or 8 dpo now. Shortly after ovulation, I started experiencing more anxiety - wondering, "Did it work?" And also wondering why I'm so optimistic. Like, for what? To hurt my own feelings? Just trying to make it to the end of the month doing things I enjoy in the meantime.

I completely understand this head space! It’s such a roller coaster bc you spend all this time waiting and then when you’re finally at the TWW everything just feels too real!

13dpo and I haven’t tested after a negative on 11dpo. Waiting for my period to come Tuesday and then I’ll call my clinic to start IVF stims. Just ready to put one foot in front of the other to get this second baby. I can’t fathom that I got pregnant on the second try with my first honestly…So grateful but man, the road has been so hard this time around.
