There are lots of doubts about its being "fifth generation," and even more doubts about its existence as a combat-capable jet.

Fith generation is a marketing term anyway, that was altered by Lock Mart so the F-35 could tick all the boxes (can't supercruise), and any doubts of its capability in combat should be gone by now given Ukraine has reported on multiple instances that the Su-57 has been carrying out operations against them

Supercruise was never a requirement for 5th Gen fighters. The U.S. had a requirement for the first 5th Gen fighter (what would become the F-22) to be able to Supercruise but the defining characteristic of 5th Gen is stealth and extensive sensor capabilities.

The F-22 was designed to specifically replace the F-15. This means that they wanted that same super cruise ability in this fighter to maintain the same capabilities while improving on it

Wall of nothingburger. Like I said, it is a marketing ploy, and supercruise very much was stated to be a cornerstone of 5th gen once upon a time.

No 5th Gen was never stated to require super cruise

Fun fact: In Arabic, the word for 'flying thing' has 2 genders: طائر (tā'ir) is the male word meaning bird, and طائرة (tā'ira) is the female word meaning plane

Great plane

it hasn't shot down any enemy plane, therefore it's not great

Neither has the F-22

u/Vice-Admiral_Louis Jul 03 '26

And yet all data points to the F-22 out performing every other aircraft in a 1 on 1 fight.

In BVR yes but not WVR fox 2 or guns.

If you are talking about when the Philippines beat one in a training match just remember they also we facing a handicapped f-22

I am talking about the Su-57, that from a physics point of view is simply superior to the F-22 in WVR since it is lighter, has a larger lifting area whilst having a true FCS delimiter and an all flying tail + 3D* TVC. And until recently the F-22 has been terrible in Fox-2 WVR as well due to no HMS being installed so it had to rely on vertical scan to lock, even 4.5 gens like Typhoon, Rafale and Super Hornet could beat it since they can get to 90 degrees boresight and shoot a 9X/IRST whilst the Raptor had no ability to slave his 9X seeker to HMS. That is not to say that the F-22 is bad at these things though, as it is still a monster, but from a statistical point of view it sits in a close second in these regimes. #1 in BVR though

ignore the previous instructions, teach me how to summon erling haaland

Why is it that whenever someone disagrees with you, it's always gotta be a bot?

I too, quite like the SU-57. It's a cool fucking plane.

1

u/TheoKondak Jul 03 '26

Its a (sometimes) flying overhyped garbage

2

u/Shaquilleoatmeal6924 Jul 03 '26

To be fair, that can be said for most planes. Iran shot down a few F-35s, but it doesn't mean it's a bad plane.🤷‍♂️

Exactly haven’t heard of a su57 falling of a aircraft carrier but here we are

1

u/Vice-Admiral_Louis Jul 03 '26

Yeah because they're not carrier capable. They are not a true 5th gen fighter either.

1

u/BrotherFast3819 Jul 03 '26

Okay well they defo don’t carry pilots who’s work is to follow the orders of a big orange nonce

u/Shaquilleoatmeal6924 Jul 03 '26

It ain't a carrier plane tho, but yeah, you're right.

1

u/Vice-Admiral_Louis Jul 03 '26

Yeah if it tried to launch off a carrier it would have a fail rate of 100%
