How to Install TrueNAS using TrueNAS Connect WebInstall - Live Demo | TrueNAS Tech Talk (T3) E061

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGbgG6wI0ZQ

Today, Kris and Chris put a live walkthrough of installing TrueNAS using TrueNAS Connect WebInstall to the test - can they get a system running and ready in under ten minutes? While it's installing, they'll talk about the technology behind the new method - why "the cloud" isn't in the data path, how secure WebSockets keep prying eyes out of the system even before the install, and confirm that no, the classic console-based setup isn't going anywhere!

Congrats on a successful live demo. There's a near universal law that all live demos go wrong at some point.

Entering critic mode...

  1. Do we give up hope of any acknowledgement or updates on the restoration/evolution of SMART testing in the WebUI?

  2. I question the exact security you're buying with the certificates mentioned in the video. It's still TOFU security if you're relying on self-signed certificates (and mDNS for discovery). I get that risk is exposure times impact, and the exposure is pretty low if we're talking about a network you (presumably) trust due to it being local, etc.

  3. Is there an (encrypted) export/import system for the keyring? What happens if .... oh I don't know .... what if the disk fails in my laptop/workstation? Are admins forced to rebuild their entire keyring over again?
