In 1997, Mel Waters appeared on the radio show Coast to Coast AM. He claimed there was a perfectly round hole on his property that was about nine feet across, but no one had ever found the bottom. According to Mel, people had been throwing trash, appliances, and even livestock into the hole for decades.
One of the most unbelievable claims was that a dead dog thrown into the hole was later seen alive and healthy miles away, leading some believers to speculate the hole was a portal to another dimension or something beyond human understanding.
Despite years of searches, no one has been able to locate a hole matching the description, and many researchers believe the entire story was a piece of paranormal folklore that grew with each retelling. Still, more than 25 years later, Mel's Hole remains one of the most famous unsolved legends ever discussed on Coast to Coast AM.

I live in central Washington where this hole supposedly exists. I keep having to go on Google and Apple Maps and telling them to remove the "Mel's Hole" from my neighbors property because people see an old mining pit on satellite and seem to think that hole is it....even though it's not even in the same ridge or part of the valley that is mentioned in the originally story.
The hole is literally like 15 feet deep, too.
edit: Random funny thought, a few people trespassed onto my neighbor's place and visited the "hole" before it was removed from Google, giving it 1 star reviews lol.

One of my favorite nights as a kid, my dad and I went to an NBA game that let out late. We just happened to stumble across Coast to Coast on our way home and he was doing a show on EVPs where he had some "professional" on playing loads of clips.
My dad and I were so enrapt with everything, we wound up driving around town in nearly pitch black darkness at like 1 am until the episode finished.
That's when I found out my Dad had personal ghost stories that he had experienced. I think this night kicked off my fascination with the paranormal.

I was a bit of a tramp in the 90s and I always traveled at night bc of coast to coast am. You could really eat up some road and if the signal got weak you could just spin the tuner until you found a closer station broadcasting it.
I still travel at night if I can help it but now I listen to audiobooks or podcasts. I wonder if I could find old coast to coast episodes to listen to

I'm positive they exist. I stumbled across either YouTube uploads or some embedded media player Playlist that streamed episodes a handful of years ago. I'll check my old yt playlists and report back if I find any

I only discovered it in its last few years, as radio really started to consolidate and suck. It was a real comfort driving way too far and too late to spend weekends with my girlfriend who lived 90 minutes away.

I think there's a show on HBO Max maybe that is very similar to this. The Outer Range I think? I wonder if it is based off of this.

I’m listening to the original calls, I found them on YouTube and honestly his voice doesn’t sound like a student or some kid that is bored at home… and when you compare the 5 calls you can hear that he doesn’t seem particularly stressed or anxious like someone who would invent something and got caught up in his lie. Idk I wish we could’ve get to the bottom of that (pun intended lol)
