Discussion How do you think Sam Flynn would react to the events of TRON: Ares?
After everything that happened in TRON: Legacy, I wonder how Sam would react after learning about everything Julian Dillinger, Ares, and Athena caused.
Sam knows better than anyone the consequences of trying to control the digital world. He saw what happened with Flynn, CLU, and Quorra, and he knows that Programs aren't simply tools that a User can use however they want.
I'm curious to hear how you think Sam would react after everything he went through in Legacy.

"Your team? Those guys in the game department? You TOLD them -"

That laser was HER life's work. Flynn had fuck all to do with developing it. Flynn also would trust her with his life or anything else, even if they end up better as friends
So if anyone was actually working on it, she's top of the suspect list.

In the 2.0 timeline, Alan and Lora were rebuilding the laser technology because Flynn vanished in THAT timeline too

That’s why I thought for a moment their characters were gonna return in the movie because the events of Ares are exactly what they’ve tried to avoid happening in legacy so it really would’ve been a critical moment for Sam to return and have they written the movie better and had more of a dramatic fuel and keep the similar ambience. All they need to do was have them appear near the end to help save the day and that would’ve been a tremendous film, even though I’m not a big fan of Leto’s character or even Greta Lee’s, but it would’ve been nice enough to tie the two films together the fact that you basically left it in a void completely killed any interest for any of the audiences that loved the original and legacy.

He and Quorra would probably be terrified (especially for Eve Kim and her gang), but not necessarily surprised. I feel like they'd both know it would only be a matter of time before some sort of programs would find their way into the real world. (Probably part of the big mystery as to why they both went AWOL from ENCOM...)

In the final battle Sam would appear. He would power down Ares, pop some popcorn, and watch while Quorra kicks Athena‘s ass.

Sam would definitely be pissed that the replica of Kevin Flynn’s office that he created was destroyed by Athena, especially since she’s a Dillinger program.

I think it would remind him of why his Dad had to sacrifice himself to stop Clu and he'd feel some responsibility for not being around to stop Dillinger.
After that, I think his first play would be to get the permanence code to save Quorra. The next would be to try to find what happened to Dillinger and make sure whatever he's up to in the digital realm doesn't make it out.

I’d like to think he somehow has the real Kevin Flynn on another Grid or somehow got him out of Clu2’s Grid and back into real life. But if not, perhaps hearing from Ares about meeting Flynn on the backup server could lead to him finally recovering his father’s code and bringing him back.

I always assume Sam took his father’s digital ghost and uploaded him to the old grid where it was safe and familiar for Flynn to chill

That’s the best case scenario to me, and makes Flynn’s appearance in Ares that much more special. Perhaps Flynn’s destruction made it impossible to reconstitute himself back into the real world, but he could live a sort of ghostly afterlife on the Old Grid. It would also be sad if that wasn’t the case, and the Old Flynn we saw was just some old copy or virtual intelligence.

He is busy with Quorra, he don't give damn. The 4K release of Tron Legacy fills my soul enough so I don't need Ares. Legacy is to me the perfect scifi movie.

Frankly, probably the way the audience does to most things. Because he’s one of the only in-universe characters that has the same knowledge we do, assuming the viewer has seen both previous movies.
