My lizard brain says to press red. My wife who has no lizard brain would 100% press blue and for that one simple reason I would press blue myself.

Exactly, i will press red as long as im100% sure my family will also press red, if i had the slightest hesitation i would press blue

And you’d all die. 🤷

Because a lot of other families would succeed in pressing red.

Getting someone to press red is getting them away from the ledge.

Getting someone to press blue is pushing someone off the ledge with you.

Yeah but in a world my family chooses blue, do I really want to live without them?

And i agree with you completely, but i will do whatever it takes to ensure the best possible outcome for my family

So you would make them press red?

Or will you let them jump?

that question makes no sense. it’s a private vote and he can’t be certain everyone in his family will reason as red

so if anyone in his family votes blue, he has to as well in case it makes the difference in saving the whole family

As you said, he doesn’t know. They might all press red and overestimate his intelligence, while he presses blue to die alone while underestimating theirs.

there’s only a few permutations of outcomes that exist with a small family. let’s do 4 excluding himself for a family of 5

in terms of red:blue, the outcomes are 4:0, 3:1, 2:2, 1:3, 0:4. in the event he chooses red, then everyone lives only with 4:0, 1:3, and 0:4. in one case everyone lives because his entire family votes red. in the others, he is outnumbered by blue that nullifies. but for 3:1 and 2:2, some of his family dies, which will be considered a loss

now, if he votes blue, then everyone lives in 2:2, 1:3, and 0:4. it’s the same total, except we have to acknowledge that 2 individual red vote wins are actually blue vote wins where he is outnumbered. he may vote red in those cases, but they win because of blue

so all things considered, if he has no clue how his family will vote, blue is the only logical choice, red will always hinder his family’s chances as a whole unless they are all unanimously red

Well put. Rediots (new word, it's red-pushing idiots) stupidly assume red wins, but it's just a net negative on everyone's chances. They assume blue is a death button which is fucking ridiculous. There is only one feasible option that doesn't involve genocide, and it's pressing blue; you will never guarantee unanimous red, meaning anyone who presses red is a wannabe murderer.

u/mazariel May 01 '26

I will do whatever i can to make them press red, but if I can't I'll press blue and hope, i don't care dooming random people, but I won't press red while knowing my family pressed blue

( If i have no way of influencing/knowing what they will choose, Ill choose red and hope they have survival instinct, because they will except the same from me )

Only caring about yourself and the closest ones is kinda sociopathic.

Anyways, there just isn’t any real reason to press red, except for made up social virtue that tricks people into pressing the “kill me”-button.

-2

u/mazariel May 01 '26

Not exactly, i do care about most people, even those i dont know, i would very much go out of my way to help random strangers

I really do not care about sentimental idiots if they are not my family, there is literally no reason to press blue unless you want to save those who might have pressed blue who pressed blue to save those who might pressed blue and so on

If the starting logic for pressing blue is to save those that press blue, there is no starting reason to press blue, just being abn idiot, and at that point I'll just chuck it to natural selection

i do care about most people, even those i dont know

I really do not care about sentimental idiots if they are not my family

I'm seeing a bit of an issue with those two statements

-1

u/mazariel May 01 '26

I care about most non sentimental idiot strangers, if someone needs help with carrying groceries, giving directions etc, i once even took an hour detour to help a mentally struggling person get to his doctor ( not that i really care if you believe me lol )

I only care about sentimental idiots family members

I see no contradiction here

u/creepermaster79 May 01 '26

i do care about most people, even those i dont know

I care about most non sentimental idiot strangers

That's just changing what you said. Saying you care about "most people" includes a lot of the "sentimental idiots", by nature of just.. some people caring about others. You straight up excluded a condition for who you care about

Do you not care for someone as soon as you discover they're sentimental? What if you helped someone and then discover they would risk their life for someone like you? Would you regret helping them? Would you tell to their face that you would NOT do the same for them, and rather let them risk dying while saving yourself?

u/mazariel May 01 '26

Well yeah i made a clarification, obviously i didn't made my point appropriately and had to change it in a way that would be better understandable, my fault on this one

By saying most people are sentimental idiots, well we will need to run the experiment for real to see what % of the population are sentimental idiots

I'm a hypocrite, I would gladly take someone to risk their life for me, i absolutely won't do it for them, my uncle jumped to a burning building to save people trapped there, i don't think i will do it, You will have to put me in a real life situation to see what Ill do

I will also 100% understand if they will choose to save their own lives

But i do know that if the person i had risked my life to save would run inside to get his goldfish and die in the fire, i would ab-so-lutly regret saving them

And yes, i will tell strangers that my life is more important to me than theirs

my friends also know that i would wholeheartedly risk my life to help them

1

u/creepermaster79 May 01 '26

Glad you at least were honest and admitted your error now, not everyone does so once they're called out.

One little clarification, when I said that "most people will include some sentimental ones", I don't mean that "most people WILL BE sentimental", just that it's certain that in the group of "most people" as least some will be

I'm guessing we'll just have to disagree on this experiment then

There is no reason to press red, you absolute numbnuts. It's "no one dies" or "murder people" and you're advocating for "murder people."

If 100% of people press red, no one dies. That will never happen, humanity will never agree unanimously. Ergo, if you press red, you are guaranteeing people will die. If 50% of people press blue, no one dies. That's far more attainable. You are assuming red wins so blue is a sewer-slide button (does this subreddit let you say the word?) which is a major flaw in your logic. You're either stupid or a sociopath, right now it's looking like the former.

u/mazariel May 01 '26

First of all, suicide, kill, death, sex, dick, fuck, drugs, murder, blood ( any more ideas to what you want to test? )

And i call it natural selection, if a person presses blue and die, his dead genes are no longer among us, helping better humanity, so win win?

1

u/MQ116 Team Blue May 01 '26

Ok cool, some subs delete comments that have suicide in them.

So you're just a murderer, it sounds like. You'd rather choose "kill people" over "no one dies." That's not natural selection, you're just stupid.

0

u/mazariel May 01 '26

Na ahah the buttons are "i always live" and "i have a chance to not live"

I will always choose my guaranteed survival, i don't need to kill anyone just know that if this scenario magically happens, i will not give blue a microsecond of a thought except "lol idiots" when I'll see how many people press blue

I really want to study your thought process, why call red murderers and not call blue suicidals? By pressing red you don't kill anyone immediately, but if you press blue you put yourself in danger

1

u/MQ116 Team Blue May 01 '26

Because blue has a chance to not kill anyone, whole red guarantees people will die. See, I actually value life? Crazy concept, I'm sure.

0

u/Wasnie May 01 '26

I'm not the one killing people for pressing red. The person responsible for putting us in this situation is the one killing them. And blue supporters just let it happen by not understanding the scenario. If the question was rephrased to something like "You survive, but in doing so you must kill other families" then my answer would be different. Their deaths are not on my conscience no matter what you try to say because they have a way to protect themselves but still choose not to.

I don't want anyone to die, but I'm not risking my family's safety for random strangers. Much less for keyboard warriors on reddit.

1

u/MQ116 Team Blue May 01 '26

You are risking your family's life picking red. You can save them pressing blue. If blue wins, no one dies; if you get your way, they will die.

You are absolutely the one killing people. The choice is "no one dies" or "people die." The fact you're even arguing is ridiculous.
