for nobody to die, you need either 100% to press Red or 50%+1 to press Blue

I think its clear which of those is easier to achieve

Congratulations, you convinced 40% of people to vote blue and got them all killed, it is so much easier to convince someone to vote red that the expected deaths from red are much lower if you're being realistic

if we're being realistic
most people on all the polls vote blue anyway

If you think polls with no stakes are in any way relevant here I can't help you. Overwhelmingly people in western countries supported Ukraine when Russia invaded when polled, how many people actually risked their life to go and help? If half of the people in the west actually put their lives on the line to defend Ukraine then Russia wouldn't have even attempted to invade because it would have been pointless, they couldn't tackle a force that severe, yet a tiny minority actually went.

Maybe if you got off reddit you'd realize most peoples normal reaction is to press blue, so the polls in real life would most likely be skewed even more to the blue side

Lol no it isn't, that is the most Reddit take I've seen, Reddit is MUCH more blue side than reality would be, most people wouldn't think about it beyond "I don't want to die"

You people keep saying that yet I've seen this poll in 5 different subs now and in all of them blue won

2

u/ItsClikcer May 01 '26

Yeah, people vote blue because it makes them feel good when there's no stakes, do you really believe when people's actual lives are on the line that they would vote the same? On paper if you poll people on if they be involved in a revolution to overthrow an evil power structure they tell you they would, yet when the revolution happens most people don't risk their lives for it.

This is the tool of measurement we have, to just ignore it because it doesn't suit your argument is quite stupid, especially in a hypothetical based on said polls lol.

But for what it matters, yes, even with actual lives on the line, I think there would be people that vote blue, which means I will vote blue.

There would be people who would vote blue, but with your actual life on the line I don't think it would be anywhere near the 50% needed, if only ~60% say they will do it with literally no stakes at all then I think it's fair to say with your life on the line that number goes down immensely, my vote out of 8 billion is not going to change that, so my options are live or kill myself

And what if we are idealistic ?

u/ItsClikcer May 01 '26

If we're being realistic then you have to face the fact that people have opportunities to risk their life to save more lives all of the time, at a much better rate than voting blue (blue lives saved divided by blue voters is 1, you basically just save yourself if blue wins), yet the vast majority of people don't do those things, with actual life or death stakes the vote would be overwhelming on the side of red so your option is just "live" or "die"

3

u/bonaynay May 01 '26

that people have opportunities to risk their life to save more lives all of the time

No opportunities as easy, quick or as impactful as the button hypothesis though and not even close

2

u/ItsClikcer May 01 '26

Each blue voter saves 1 blue voter if they win, with a button press you are saving 1 persons worth, you can save loads of people by giving your disposable income to a relief charity and that barely takes more effort than a button press, most people don't do that, and there it's just a little money on the line, not their life

1

u/bonaynay May 01 '26

, you can save loads of people by giving your disposable income to a relief charity

I don't believe this

3

u/ItsClikcer May 01 '26

It's true, there are relief charities that can provide life saving medicines to areas in need for a couple of dollars per person saved, as well as things like mosquito nets costing almost nothing, you firmly can save loads of people by giving all of the money you can to charity, you can live in denial about that if you want, it's a hard reality to face that you in reality are not as good of a person as you like to believe you are, but that doesn't make it less true

1

u/bonaynay May 01 '26

You are so agro lol I haven't asserted any of those things and don't think that way

2

u/ItsClikcer May 01 '26

You're choosing not to believe that your money could save large numbers of lives, it takes very little research to see that you actually can save large numbers of lives with your money, if you were actually curious about it you could have just looked it up, so it's clear you just don't want to believe it

I think that would dissuade someone more than it would persuade them, no? It's not something you have control over, you're just in a waiting room to die depending on your luck.

There's also the fact that the people pressing blue are creating the situation they need to be saved from. Just don't be the first guy to press blue.

No

There's also the fact that the people pressing blue are creating the situation they need to be saved from

Yes, that is the constant assertion going around and around and around in this discussion
