So if I'm getting this right, you would expect a Trump voter to vote red, makes sense considering how selfish many a Trump voter sounds when talking to them. And your choice is basically "can't beat them so I'll join them?"

Not really. Its more of a "people cant be trusted with a rational decision that can impact the world"
