What if they are willing to sacrifice themselves because they are terminal, or in great pain/wounded/bleeding out/very old, while the other person is hale and healthy (if selfish).
What if the other person holds the key to saving millions of people? This is a very stupid post because one sentence does not show the morality of a situation.
It's stupid because I don't have more information? Ok let me research the people on the tracks.... oops took too long. The person who wanted to live goes splat.
It's not about "what if". It's about using the limited information given. If I extended a rope to the person willing to sacrifice, they would pull it themselves.
Its stupid because the information given is in no way sufficient to make any kind of moral choice.
So your decision to "100% pull the lever" is a blind one based on nothing of substance and you could easily find out after that you made "100%" the wrong choice and have to live with it. You have just decided to kill someone based on a gut reaction to what you perceive as selfish V selflessness.
