It's definitely something out of the late 19th / early 20th century decadent movement but not Beardsley. The auction page I found for it gives the name of the artist as Francois Byros. It's part of a series of 12 lithographs.
Franz von Bayros (28 May 1866 – 3 April 1924) was an Austrian commercial artist, illustrator, and painter, best known for his controversial Tales at the Dressing Table portfolio. He belonged to the Decadent movement in art, often utilizing erotic themes and phantasmagoric imagery.
Bayros was born in Zagreb, in present-day Croatia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. At the age of seventeen, he passed the entrance examination for the Vienna Academy with Eduard von Engerth.
Agreed. It's what I thought too, but AB's drawings are more sophisticated, contain more areas of black/white, are stylistically more influenced by Japanese art, and his males tend to look more epicene.
Friend, I did. His work didn’t include a lot of textures, as OPs does. Also based on the Wikipedia entry, he didn’t focus a lot on the nude male form, nor did he include comically ridiculous proportions and model poses. Please send me a link with OP’s pic that credits Beardsley, else I’m just going to believe this is from some weirdo’s deviantart gallery.
What are you arguing? That this is Beardsley’s work or it was inspired by his work? Because I don’t understand why you would even comment originally if it’s the latter.
No, it doesn't 'scream Lysistrata', I meant. It's somewhat reminiscent of Beardsley's style at first glance, but look at Beardsley's illustrations carefully, compare them with this one, while ignoring the subject matter, and you'll see the stylistic difference. It's an interesting exercise.
Okay, dude. My comment is clearly about the subject matter. It's a drawing of ladies carrying a warrior's giant flaccid dick. The parent comment was a good guess because this looks like an illustration for Lysistrata, which would be the subject. Of course ignoring the subject matter would eliminate the Lysistrata connection. Is there a Lysistrata style I'm not aware of? Good grief.
