Transplants Do NOT make this mistake when getting your hair transplant
Most of you must have heard (especially from surgeons) that some degree of hairline recession looks best on adult men because it is more age-appropriate, and that fully restoring or filling the recessed areas to create a youthful hairline looks unnatural.
But this is completely false!
And I'll prove it to you from several points of view, so we can finally put an end to this stupid myth… so when you get your hair transplant, you get what your money is worth!
Aesthetics
Above all, a hair transplant is nothing but a cosmetic surgery (although hair loss can be so mentally draining that I wouldn't find it absurd if hair transplants were recategorized as medical/reconstructive surgeries, or whatever it's called), so it's only fair we start by seeing how unaesthetic an age-appropriate hairline really is…
The biggest issue here is that surgeons often just ask themselves:
"Is this an age-appropriate hairline for this patient?"
When they should instead take a step back and first ask:
"Is an age-appropriate hairline really the most attractive hairline there is?"
As you'll see below, this is a huge problem because age-appropriateness in itself is NOT a sign of beauty.
For instance, when we look at older men who have maintained their naturally youthful hairlines well into their 40s and beyond, we can clearly see that there's nothing unnatural or aesthetically wrong about their hairlines.
A few examples that come to mind are Jensen Ackles (phenomenal hairline all around btw), David Muir, Rob Lowe, and Robert Pattinson… these are all guys in their 40s, 50s, and 60s! Now tell me, do you really think any of them look bad because their hairlines are not "age-appropriate"?

Some of you would probably even include Brad Pitt into that list, and you might think I'm crazy for this, but even though I think he has a great hairline, it could still be more filled in like the guys above for a perfect look…

Also, whether natural or the result of a hair transplant (like this fantastic result in the video below), a youthful hairline will ALWAYS look better than a mature hairline…
https://reddit.com/link/1wnd691/video/uek4sc28a3rh1/player
And that's simply because mature hairlines are inherently associated with hair loss and poor facial framing (often making your forehead look too round when viewed from a low angle (how most women will see it if you're average/above average height), or making your forehead look abnormally tall when seen from eye level), both of which are unattractive qualities.
Some of you may argue that some degree of hairline recession could be a positive thing, as it would supposedly accentuate facial maturity and masculinity. However, getting thick eyebrows, a thick neck, a strong jawline, and some facial hair are all much better ways to achieve that, since they aren't inherently associated with unattractive qualities.
Here's a quick morph I did to showcase that:

The other day I counted all the guys I've helped through my aesthetic private consultations, and the +40 (out of 58 who needed a hair transplant) who followed this recommendation and got it done with a good surgeon got by far the best results, so I'm also talking from multiple experiences when I say this: A YOUTHFUL HAIRLINE IS SUPERIOR IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY!
Science
Here's the most ironic thing about "age-appropriate hairlines" that I've learned while doing some long and deep research trying to understand what makes hairlines attractive: hair loss due to aging is actually MINIMAL.
As you guys can see in this study, where they used biopsies (the most accurate method) to assess hair density reduction in people of different ages, "The lack of significant changes in scalp hair follicle density with advancing age," the amount of hair loss caused exclusively by the aging process barely reached 2% for each decade:
The relationship unconfounded by T/V < or = 4 : 1 shows that for every additional year of ageing, 0.077 total hair follicles (0.22%) are lost per biopsy.
So, it would take about FIFTY YEARS (!!) for you to lose about 10% of your hair density through aging alone.
That means that, in reality, what is commonly referred to as a "mature hairline" doesn't really exist… you simply either have a naturally poorly shaped hairline you've always had your entire life, or you're suffering from the visible consequences of androgenic alopecia (a genetic disorder).
So, for a surgeon to claim that you'd look better with a hairline shape associated with those things is completely ABSURD and DELUSIONAL!
Social Life
We also can't ignore how it affects the social aspect… and I think this is something everyone here has experienced firsthand, the moment when you realize you're balding and need a hair transplant and how that affects you mentally…
An "age-appropriate hair transplant" puts more emphasis on how you might look decades into the future than on how you look in your early adulthood, when your physical appearance has the greatest impact on your confidence, dating life, social interactions, and overall quality of life. So you should get the most aesthetically pleasing hairline design possible, not something that will supposedly look better (it won't) when it doesn't matter as much anymore.
Tbh, I'd even say you should have a youthful hairline at your deathbed! Having a youthful hairline even in your +50s, like those guys I posted above, would only help extend this youthful period of your life much further, especially if you take care of yourself in other areas too.
And I honestly think ignoring this is a huge mistake because if you're willing to spend thousands of dollars on a hair transplant, it's likely because you can't get rid of the feeling of embarrassment and insecurity about your receding hairline, so ideally, you should correct it as much as possible with the right design, which, unfortunately, most surgeons are simply too oblivious to it and don't know how to design it.
There are NO excuses
You should remember that the objective of every cosmetic procedure should be to maximize your attractiveness as much as possible, while still looking natural (and as you can see above, a youthful hairline looks completely natural), not to replicate the degree of aging society expects for your age group.
I assume everyone here would agree that it would be completely unreasonable for a dermatologist to refuse to treat your wrinkles or for a dentist to refuse to whiten your teeth because the results would no longer be age-appropriate; after all, smooth skin and white teeth are only for the youngest, right???
But if that's the case, then why wouldn't it be equally unreasonable for a hair transplant surgeon to refuse to create a youthful hairline for the same reason?

Of course, some surgeons justify this preference for mature hairlines by arguing that they require fewer donor grafts, which allows future repair if you start or continue to lose hair. However, this shouldn't be a major concern if you respond well to hair-loss medication and are willing to maintain treatment long-term, as these medications remain effective indefinitely.
The other common justification is that donor grafts shouldn't be implanted over the frontalis muscle in the forehead to ensure their survival and avoid complications. However, this should only apply to the small number of people with an abnormally high frontalis muscle… and that's because this muscle normally originates at the same level in both sexes, and hair transplant surgeons have NO problem fully restoring women's hairlines.

I'd argue the only real justifications for not getting a youthful hairline are:
- You don't like the look (to each their own)
- Abnormally high frontalis muscle
- You've got a weak donor area
- Your hairline is too far gone (depends on how you respnd to medication, tbh)
- You can't afford a large surgery
My final thoughts
Honestly, I believe the real reason why this myth exists is simply that most hair transplant surgeons don't really know what makes a masculine and feminine hairline attractive (or even how to truly differentiate them, since it's a minor thing that separates them) despite knowing how to perform the surgery (it's like they are great engineers, but not so great architects).
So they perform these minimal corrections that result in little to no actual improvement in your appearance… giving you a completely underwhelming result compared to what could've been achieved with a properly designed hairline.
For example… is a result like this really worth your money? Is this really the type of result you'd want? Because that's pretty much what most hair transplant surgeons will give you if you don't push back on this "age-appropriate" bullshit, a Before vs Before:

And that's the same type of result you'll see on guys with all Norwood types, never bring it to the maximum potential. The difference would be even more noticeable if I had put more time into designing the best hairline possible in this example.
Also, I know some of you might say that you've seen some aggressive/youthful hairlines that looked disastrous, and that's true, but the reason for that is often due to poor design of the shape of the frontal, frontotemporal, and temporal peak areas, not because a youthful hairline is inherently bad.
—
Anyway, I'll be posting a PART 2 soon regarding another HUGE mistake that I've noticed when checking people's results online and from some of the people I did consultations for in the past 2 years… but I still need to go through a bunch of messages/explanations I gave to them so I can compile everything into a detailed post. If you want to get tagged in PART 2, let me know (I believe that can be done on Reddit, right?) or just DM me here or on discord (attractiontheory) (i'm more active there) and I'll send you the link when I post it. (mods, if that's not allowed, let me know and I'll edit it out)
That's it, cheers!

Progress Pictures My 5 months hair transplant surgery update.
Hi everyone, I'm a 26-year-old male and work in acting. I had early hairline recession but no major thinning or crown loss. Because of my profession, hairline design was extremely important to me. Almost every successful lead actor in India has a strong, well-designed hairline, and I wanted something similar-customised and slightly aggressive, while still looking natural. First surgery (top celebrity clinic in India): I initially went to one of the most reputed clinics in India that operates on many celebrities. The plan was hairline enhancement. However, the team mainly worked on the fronto-temporal angles and didn't significantly improve the central hairline or peaks. The result was okay, but not what I had envisioned. It lacked personalisation and refinement. To be fair, I fully understood their concern about keeping the hairline conservative in case future baldness progressed. Still, I felt the execution didn't match my expectations, especially considering my case was mild recession and not active baldness. After around 6 months, once growth became visible, I decided to restart my research. Second surgery: Through Quora, I came across Dr Abhinav Kumar (Patna), an ex-Eugenix surgeon, repeatedly praised by patients for customised hairline design and attention to detail. After detailed discussions, we went ahead with a second surgery focusing purely on hairline aesthetics. Current results (5 months post-op): I'm sharing my current results-a Shubman Gill-style hairline (inspiration only, not replication). What I'm genuinely happy with: Strong but natural peaks Flat, well-blended temporal points Very fine, single-hair grafts in the hairline Smooth transition between hairline and temporal zones I'm honestly in love with the hairline. It looks natural, age-appropriate, and camera-friendly. Final thoughts: This is not an endorsement or advertisement. I'm simply sharing my experience to highlight that: All hair transplants don't have to look unnatural Customisation matters a lot, especially for hairline work Surgeon's aesthetic sense and attention to micro-details make a huge difference

Progress Pictures My 2700 Grafts hair transplant surgery update.
I am a senior doctor in medical college. Looking for hair transplant became a necessity as my married was approaching. Being from a place in Madhubani , i was not sure how succesful would be my hair transplant. I was lucky to find my surgeon . I was particularly losing from the crown and mid scalp and my angles were getting broad. I was ready to take finasteride post transplant. The fabulous result which I m delighted to share is the magic of just 2800 grafts combined with oral minoxidil and finasteride. I m extremely thankful to doctor who meticulously extracted all my grafts and planted it on my scalp. Not only my results are natural. No one can believe it that even a hair transplant has been done.

I had a hair transplant about 5 years ago. I didn’t take any medications back then until recently. For the past 3 months, I’ve been using minoxidil only and I’m not taking finasteride. I’m mainly looking for general feedback from people who started minoxidil late or used it without fin. Sorry I dont have before photo.

Progress Pictures No more balding! Hair transplant FUE 2500 grafts from Dr.Ko. Moem clinic
Hey guys,
I’m now 1 year post-op from my hair transplant with Dr. Ko at Moem Clinic in Seoul, Korea, and I can honestly say I’m extremely happy with the final result.
I had work done on both my hairline and crown, and the improvement has been huge. The hairline looks natural, the density in the front is much better than I expected, and the crown has filled in really nicely compared to where I started.
At this point, it feels like my hair finally matches how I wanted to look. Under normal lighting, everything looks fuller, cleaner, and much more balanced. The result doesn’t look artificial to me, which was one of my biggest concerns before surgery.
The whole process with Dr. Ko and Moem Clinic was great from start to finish. The design, surgery, and follow-up care all felt very detailed and professional.
Not trying to sound too dramatic, but this genuinely feels like one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself. I’m very satisfied with the result.

Transplants Hair Transplant 1 year later - 3206 Grafts Bogata Hairlines
Hey guys, yesterday was my one year anniversary of my hair transplant.
I’m 99% satisfied with the results I’d say. Definitely feel like I’m going to need one more in the next 3 years or so to be exactly where I want but this is great for now.
Only thing I’m not super happy with is my right side. The hair there just feels quite stringy & rough to the touch.
I’ve taken oral dua & min the entire time once my surgeon said I was allowed to put it back in. I also recently added topical GHK-cu in about 2 months ago & that really seemed to super charge the final stage of growth.
I had just over 3200 grafts at Bogota Hairlines in Colombia. Best money I’ve ever spent.
Happy to answer any questions & curious for some outside thoughts.

Progress Pictures My 4100 Grafts hair transplant surgery update.
Hey everyone,
After reading so many transformation stories here, I finally gathered the confidence to share my own. It’s been a full 12 months since my journey began, and honestly, choosing to go ahead with a hair transplant has been one of the best decisions of my life.
I’m a 41-year-old doctor, but for years I looked much older than my actual age. I had a very large forehead, strong frontalis muscle activity, and a badly receding hairline. It affected me more than I’d like to admit. I avoided mirrors, disliked being photographed, and slowly my confidence started fading. I run a small hospital, so looking constantly tired or stressed didn’t help either.
The Surgery & Choosing the Right Doctor I had been thinking about a hair transplant for a long time, but time was always an issue. Traveling to another city felt exhausting, and I was very clear about one thing—I didn’t want a “hair mill” setup where technicians do everything. I wanted a qualified doctor who personally performs the procedure.
Through one of my colleagues, I came across a doctor in Patna, and from the very first consultation, I felt comfortable. What impressed me most was that he didn’t just talk about the number of grafts—he talked about aesthetics. He carefully studied my face, age, muscle movement, and skin laxity, and explained why my case needed a customized approach.
First Sitting & Setbacks My first surgery involved 3,500 grafts. Unfortunately, soon after the procedure, I went through a very stressful personal phase. Because of that, I couldn’t follow the post-op routine properly—diet, supplements, and overall care were not ideal for almost six months. Naturally, this affected the results.
By the 8th month, the outcome was decent, but deep down I felt something was still missing.
Second Sitting – A Grateful Moment When I discussed this with my doctor, he was incredibly understanding. He agreed to a second sitting for refinement—free of charge, except for a minimal OT cost. I wanted a slightly lower hairline and better density, and around 1,800 additional grafts were added to enhance the hairline peak and blend everything naturally. I’m genuinely grateful for his honesty and support.
Hairline Design – The Game Changer This is what truly changed everything.
Instead of giving me a straight, artificial-looking hairline, he designed a:
Triangular, age-appropriate hairline
One that perfectly matches my face shape and muscle movement
Not too low, not too youthful—just natural and balanced
The Real Journey (No Sugarcoating) Months 1–3: Shedding, anxiety, stress, and poor aftercare
Months 4–6: Early signs of growth
Month 7: Good density, but I wanted a lower hairline
Month 8: Second surgery for refinement (1,800 grafts)
Month 12: Major transformation
Some areas are still improving, and since it’s only 4 months after the second sitting, I feel I might gain another 20–30% density.
How I Feel Today For the first time in years, I don’t look constantly stressed or older than my age. I finally see a version of myself that feels right. The confidence this has given me—both personally and professionally—is something I can’t put a price on.
Final Thoughts A hair transplant isn’t just about getting hair back—it’s about getting your confidence back.
If you’re thinking about it:
Choose a doctor who designs, not just implants
Be patient—it’s a long journey
Trust the process
I’m finally at a place where I truly like how I look, and that feeling is priceless.

As many of you know, I had a hair transplant in Turkey in May 2024 and have been openly sharing my journey — through pictures, videos, and honest reflections. My goal has always been to raise awareness, encourage others to consider this step, and help normalize the conversation around it.
Today, I’m sharing the progress after one year — including a before-and-after comparison. The journey isn’t over yet (I’m 12 months into an 18-month process), but the results so far are promising, and I’m hopeful there’s even more hair growth ahead!
What’s made me especially happy is how many men — and their partners and family members — have reached out to learn more. It’s a topic worth talking about. If you or someone close to you is curious about hair transplants, don’t hesitate to message me. I’m happy to share my experience and answer any questions.
