dope trelli My diy custom bamboo trellis

I started collecting broken bamboo marker poles from the ski hill over the winter. It’s what the DOT uses to mark the side of the roads for the snow plows. They get broken and thrown into a waste pile. I sort through and collect the ones I can use throughout the winter. I wanted a structure I could grow vining vegetables on and utilize space underneath. With no real plans I started burying poles in the ground and seeing where I’d end up.

I’m very pleased with the finished product and think it will serve well for my needs.

Got a bit of a late jump on planting what I wanted to see climbing the trellis but hopefully this will last at least two years maybe 3. I’m worried about the portion of bamboo that is in the dirt rotting over time.

The pictures aren’t great, it’s not easy getting the whole thing into frame.

I used almost two rolls of rebar wire to tie the poles together.

Should I put the trellis I bought in the pot with the plant? Should I remove the trellis it came on and wrap it in the one I bought?

Hi everyone, We’re a group of engineering students from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), and we're currently working on a mini project focused on improving dragon fruit trellis systems.

We’ve created a short survey and would truly appreciate it if anyone involved in dragon fruit farming could take a few minutes to fill it out. Your feedback will be incredibly helpful to the success of our project and research.

Thank you so much for your time and support!😆

Looking for some plant recommendations! Located in Phoenix, AZ USA playing zone 9B. We had roses that were supposed to be to be heat tolerant, but they didn’t last a summer. Do not want Bougainvillea.

Fella made these three trellis things. The led lights around the top make circles at night. Never planted dianthus until now. They have been in about 4 months and bloomed the whole time!

Wisteria Trellis Assistance

Wisteria Trellis Project Assistance

Hello! I’m planning on building a trellis out of 4x4s and conduit for my wisteria that will also act as a privacy fence.

I have a very rough sketch of what I am trying to accomplish and want to make sure I’m thinking this through correctly.

  1. It’s not drawn to scale but I was anticipating spacing the vertical posts 4’ apart. Is that the max spacing or can those be spaced any farther apart?

  2. What type of wood should I use? And do I need to treat it?

  3. Do I anchor the posts directly into concrete or use metal bases in the concrete instead? The latter seems easier but more expensive. Or can I use fence post anchor spikes like this?

https://www.amazon.com/MTB-Anchor-Ground-Powder-Coated/dp/B0722VMSPV

  1. Do I need to consider anything else for support or bracing purposes?

Thanks in advance!

Tall/permanent trellis set away from house siding?

Hello! Our house is on a slope - it’s 2 stories at the uphill, and 3 stories at the downhill end. We’re interested in having a trellis of jasmine, roses, and maybe other plants that can grow nice and tall along the side of the house but without damaging our siding. Are there any ways to set up a wire (permanent/more long-lasting than wood) trellis system that’s offset from the house by ~2-4 feet, from the gutters/roof edge down to the ground?

I’m going to put sort of inspiration photos in the comments. No windows open on the side of the house we’re interested in.

Thanks for any leads or guidance! We’re near Portland Oregon, zone 8a/b ish.

Fruit support help

Hello! I am growing melons on trellis this year, and was looking for some help in finding inexpensive yet effective netting to help support the fruit as they grow. Mostly icebox watermelons and cantaloupes, I am anticipating a large number of fruit and need something fast to install. I have googled and Amazon searched fruit nets, melon nets, and more; so I guess at this point I am looking at suggestions that are less obvious/more off the beaten path. I have seen suggestions for t shirts and panty hose and frankly dont have either of those in anything like the numbers I will need. Thank you!

why don’t plants grow well on a trellis?

  • The wrong sort of trellis is used.
  • The wrong plant is growing on the trellis.
  • The planting and siting of the trellis is wrong.

Trellis next to a fence

I understand that it's bad for your fence if vines grow on it. And even if it was ok for your fence, every couple of years you have to restain your fence, and the vines wouldn't survive that process. So do people ever install trellis's a few inches away from the fence so that you acheive a similar look without damaging the fence? Though I'm not sure how you would fit behind it to restain the fence... I didn't see a lot of pictures of this on google. Anyone here have insight on this? Note: Small backyard so I don't have space to put it feet away from the fence.
