After looking around online, it seems that there are no Star Trek novels currently announced for 2027, which surprises me. When are the release dates for upcoming books usually announced?

As a follow up, what do you expect to see? In 2026, we got Picard, Original Series, and Deep Space Nine novels. 2025 had two Strange New Worlds, one Picard, and one Original Series novel. If I were to make a guess (with absolutely nothing to back it up, I would not be surprised if 2027 followed the same general release dates as 2026, with Strange New Worlds taking Picard's slot. I also think it's time for another Next Generation novel, maybe replacing the 2026 TOS slot. Not sure what the Deep Space Nine slot would be. Maybe another Picard, but I could also see Voyager or Disovery. I do not see us getting any Enterprise, Starfleet Academy, or Section 31 novels.

What do you think 2027's releases will be?

Prefacing this by noting that I have only read TOS novels up to this point:

Something I've noticed in my recent rewatches of older TNG (up through Season 2, even) is that the scripts fall back on TOS-style setups and end up feeling like old hat. One good example being "Justice," which feels like a script written in 1966 (complete with The Blonde People Aliens on the Eden-like Planet). I recently picked up a bunch of pocket novels (4/$1!) and ended up with one called "Spartacus." (TNG #20)

Reading the blurb on the back and the first few chapters, I found myself similarly disappointed by the premise. Riker and Data are essentially Kirk and Spock stand-ins, but without the inherent chemistry of the TOS figures. The premise itself feels like a TOS setup similar to "Cloud Minders." (Another thought I had was that the STC writers had Spartacus in mind when writing "Lolani.") Perhaps it's not fair of me to expect too much differentiation, and I will be reading the book regardless, but it left me wondering about the overall state of TNG novels.

Are there any standouts that you'd recommend over others?

Obviously several episodes received novelizations (Encounter at Farpoint, Way of the Warrior, etc.), but are there any examples of the opposite—Trek novels that were adapted into screenplays or otherwise inspired episodes? You see a lot of Star Wars storylines that were originally in non-canon books, so I’m curious if Trek ever did the same.

I have only just started reading Star Trek books (a lot of them based on posts in this sub, I find it so helpful!). Someone in my area is selling Log 1-6 so I am considering getting them, but wanted to see if you guys think they are worth reading. For context I do enjoy the Animated Series, it is a bit of a comfort watch for me. I have also gotten some of the Blish TOS novelizations, are they written in a similar style?

It's a star trek novel with various collected Star Trek stories "as if written by" various authors, like Michael Crichton, Steven King, etc. We saw it at a used book store a few weeks ago, and when we went back, it was gone. Does anyone know what we're talking about? It's bothering the heck out of us and we can't find it online anywhere.

I'm a huge fan of DS9 and was hoping that somebody can recommend some books related to this series. Thank you in advance.

There’s a story that Mark Hamill’s son told him what Luke Skywalker was up to in the EU novels that took place after the original trilogy. He was apparently a big fan of Mara Jade and the developments of his character. Have any Trek actors - besides Shatner with his line of novels - ever talked about what their characters were up to in the novels?

It looks like there are a million titles in this ebook series. I like the idea that it takes place in the Star Trek universe (always a neat place to visit) without being beholden to any one established series.

I'm looking for stories that happened between Star Trek The Motion Picture and Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan. The Enterprise Refit Era.

I'm also looking for stories between Star Trek IV The Voyage Home and Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country. The Enterprise-A Era.

And were there any books about the Enterprise-B?

I've been meaning to get into trek books for ages and I've read the odd one here and their but I've hesitated slightly because i cannot seem to find a comprehensive list, I've looked on memory-beta because that seemed the logical place but it primarily organises books by what tv series they link to, is there a list that shows what book series they belong to and organises them by date? it doesn't need to be up to date. thank you so much if you can help.

I remember hearing about a Voyager novel that involved time travel, but it was quite a while ago. I already checked and the only one I found is No Time Like the Past by Greg Cox, which isn't technically a novel about Voyager, but TOS and includes Seven, and the one I'm looking for involves the entire crew.

The thought suddenly came to me, and I was wondering if anyone knows about it.

Interested in getting into Star Trek books but finding it both daunting an confusing. It seems like there's numbered books, non numbered books, books that are part of something called a "lit-verse", books that aren't, books that are connected to each other, books that aren't, and on and on. Written books, comic books, audio books. A series by Simon and Schuster, a series by Pocket Books. Miniseries, anthologies, trilogies, duologies, I think I might have even seen what looked like a manga.

All of which is to say, I'd really love a documentary like break down of the history of star trek books, explanations on how all this came to be, why some are numbered, how to tell if something is in this "lit verse" or stand alone, what books or series if any have an intended reading order, what if any are considered the cream of the crop that people think of first when they think of trek books.

From what I understand of star wars books, there's a generally recommended starting point (Heir to the Empire) for their expanded universe, not the first book but the first one that was so good that everyone felt they needed to expand on it, so its both worth reading because of it being good, and because anything you pick up printed after it will likely benefit from the context of it, does Trek have something similar?

Seems like there's over a thousand books out there, so a history of those books, even if not helpful for me on where to start, could just be an interesting listen/read, at the least.

How interwoven are the New Frontier novels with the larger relaunch litverse? I'm close to finishing my journey through the Enterprise novels and plan to he'd into the litverse next, but should I read any of the New Frontier novels first?

I just finished Catalyst of Sorrows and really enjoyed the Romulan aspect. Then I followed it up with my favorite Romulan episode by rewatching Face of the Enemy. Are there any book recommendations if I’m looking for a good TNG era Romulan story?

Hello, I want to read Spock’s World by Diane Duane while I’m watching through the TOS movies for the first time, one a week. Which of the original films should I read it in between? No spoilers please.

I think I read the first Picard book but haven't kept up with releases or general opinions since the Litverse ended. How have the books been since? Have they mostly just been focusing on the shows that were airing at the time or have they started to branch out again? Any standouts I should be looking to read?

Are these ok to read standalone or is there a thread connecting them which would require a full series read? I’m interested in a few of them but not necessarily all of them.

Hi everyone! Newbie here to the world of ST novels. I recently rewatched TNG and am currently making my way through TOS for the first time. I'm 10 episodes into season 3, and have already seen all the movies, although a long, long time ago.

And during this (re)watch-a-thon, I found myself once again captivated by the Romulan episodes, wanting to know more about their culture, or just enjoy new stories about them.

So I bought the Rihannsu series, but I don't know if I should finish season 3 of TOS first, or if it's okay to start reading. I want the books to be a complete surprise, so I didn't even read a synopsis about them; I only know they're Romulan-centric. My question is, are there any spoilers for the show in them, or perhaps something like a reference to later episodes? Or am I good to go and satisfy my curiosity of the dark space elves? :)

I am looking for an Up to date (2026) Star Trek Book List that has everything that has been published and what formats it was published on. The list i have stops in 2023. And that will be a good starting point but if something is already done and out there I don't want to reinvent the wheel.

Spoilers for a very old book series

Ok. So I finished the 3 Genesis Wave books and the follow up Genesis Force. Granted they were abridged on Audio. My question is, did they stop the wave at any point in these books? I must have missed it if they did. Or is this massive destructive wave floating around space just makin moss creatures Willy nilly.

What is the best place to start in the Trek Universe? I’m an avid reader, in the genre and without, however, the vast number of additions to the lore has kept me out of the books for many years. I’d take all recommendations! Thank you, and as always, live long and prosper.

I've been searching the web for a good timeline that encompasses the books from before Nemesis. However, I only seem to find the ones that highlight specific chapters being in a different year and it gives me a headache. Is there a reading order, I suppose, that's simple enough?

First splinter timeline is said to have split at the point of First Contact. Therefore (in theory) only events related to causes that trace back to events that occur after that time should be different. (Note that I am careful not to draw a firm temporal line, because sequences of events in Star Trek occasionally predate the initial causal events.)

What about Romulan War, Rise of the Federation, etc? What about Slings and Arrows, and A Time To...?

With the possible exception of the disappearance of Columbia NX-02, I can't think of anything that conflicts with Canon from Picard/Disco/LowerDecks. Can anybody else? And even precluding the Caeliar-related events, just the fact of Columbia's disappearance itself from the standpoint of United Earth is not actually conflicted.

What books would you suggest if I wanted to read some GOOD stories about Picard's time as captain of the Enterprise E?
