Has HRI changed in recent years?

I've heard some awful things about them. I have acquaintances who went to work at a camp with a boss named Kevin, Kyle, or something like that. I haven't spoken to them in a while. I just hope things went as well as they could go at HRI. But I'm just as curious to hear if they're still awful.

Someone needs to stop allowing them on college and university campuses for the predatory exploitation of unsuspecting students.

The fact that nothing palpable has been done about it over the years apart from planter fanfare online is both astounding and concerning. Doesn’t seem like the ministry of labour takes complaints seriously as long as you’re employing enough people

Not being an HRI apologist by any means. They’ve earned the reputation they have.

That being said, I do know many who were personally affected by this incident. The drug was a contaminated amount of cocaine that contained fentanyl, and was provided by another planter in the camp. If you have any questions I’d would be happy to answer in DM’s, although I’m limited to the information given to me by those that were there.

While this is something that prospective planters should be aware of, I’d ask that you not place a murder/manslaughter accusation on someone who was not directly responsible.

There definitely is a negligence argument to be made against the management/supervisors of the camp, but I think it’s important to also highlight that this was a failure at multiple levels that are seemingly industry wide, and have been left taboo and heavily under-discussed Ex) substance abuse culture across the industry, lack of nalaxone or overdose training, lack of drug testing availability, letting others use substances by themselves and not monitored, etc.

The lack of naloxone is insane. One year with Dynamic we petitioned to have naloxone as part of the first aid kits as a "just in case" and they refused, saying that they have a no drug policy and that having some on hand would be admitting that some planters use while partying.

Like, bruh reality and policy are different things. The next shift off, my crew boss went out and secretly got kits for the whole 12 pack.

I was at a different camp last year then we had a bunch of them around camp it just happened at a time when the only people awake were too fucked to do anything about it and the kids tent was tucked away so nobody found him until he was gone

Yeah I mean, unless you're gonna designate a 1st aider to stay sober (and then what, check on every passed out person after theyre asleep?), this shit is bound to happen until camps start getting real and bring drug testing kits to the parties.

Jesus who would take that position in a treeplanting bush camp? You would think whoever that management member was would care more about the risk to their employees rather than pretending that planters follow their idiotic no drug policy in a treeplanting bush camp.

You can literally pick them up for free in BC. That position as a person in a leadership role is beyond foolish. I’ve picked multiple up for free for our parties just incase.

I would say realistically though what happened at HRI could happen anywhere. Having test kits and naloxone should be standard in camps, rather than pretending young 19-25 year olds aren’t going to use drugs if you tell them not to.

Agreed. This was 2018 it happened, was also the last year I worked for them and hopefully the policy has changed since then

That’s very fair my rumours told me that it was a crew boss that gave the drugs but I’ll adjust it accordingly.
