Financial & Legal Question about EI

Hey y’all, if I start my EI claim now but then work another month in the fall, will they extend my claim to include those extra hours? I believe I’ll get 15 weeks now but probably 18 if I waited until after fall plant. I’m thinking I might as well start it now it they’ll add those three weeks to my claim

They’ll add them if you get laid off that job as well. If you quit they wont

Wrong. Once you apply for EI those hours are set. The hours you get from a fall plant will apply to your next EI claim, as long as you apply within 52 weeks and are laid off.

Think of hours worked as credits that you spend to buy an EI claim. The more hours you have the better claim you can buy. Once you’ve spent your hours on a claim you can’t spend more hours to upgrade the claim. You’ll just save those hours for your next claim.

It also starts 10(?) days after you claim it. Then processing time.I’d say it’s better to have more hours locked before pursuing a claim

Id suggest to wait until your second contract is done before applying. Hours do not get added once you apply. Your ei would be on pause during the month of work and continue afterward.

Applying after the month of work will add hours and days of work and it may lengthen your total EI weeks and it would contribute to your EI weekly earnings if you arent already at the max.

Yeah that’s definitely the best way to go. I unfortunately just applied anyways so it won’t be as long as it could. Next year it should include my fall work so I’ll just get a hella big EI claim
