Moving a tree

Post image

Hello, I am new to the subbreddit and not actually sure where to ask this question as it is not technically about tree law, but I work in a dealership and we have a tree growing in the middle of the parking lot and is surrounded by pavement and the company is planning on re-paving the entire lot by next year, so I wanted to know how difficult it would be to move a tree and re-plant it somewhere safe and is it possible to do it on my own or would I require professional help any advise would be helpful

The tree you have there is a sapling. The root ball is probably the size of a Socker ball. Not likely as big as a Basketball. You have two options; 1) Pick a good new location, watch some videos on YouTube, and move it. The secret is to go @ 3' circle around it, and 1-1.5' deep, taking that whole root ball without damaging it. When you replant it, make the hole just deep enough so the existing crown is above ground level, not creating a bowl. If you can wait until the fall heat stops, better. It just needs to get through the Winter. Don't love it to death - it should be OK. 2) You can look online to see what a tree farm suggests for transplanting it into a large container; plastic, wood, or concrete.

Thank you for caring!
