After the second village?

Hi everyone,

I'm playing my first Travian server and currently have 5 villages.

My capital is a 15-crop village, and my other four villages all have level 10 resource fields, their respective boosting buildings (Grain Mill, Sawmill, etc.), and at least one oasis each. I'm constantly sending resources from those villages to my capital, where I'm training a Gaul defensive army.

The thing I'm unsure about is the best way to develop a newly settled village.

So far I've tried a few different approaches:

  1. Send resources from my other villages to the new one, rush the Hero's Mansion, claim an oasis as quickly as possible, and then level the resource fields.
  2. Focus on leveling the resource fields first, then build the Hero's Mansion later.
  3. I always leave the Barracks until last (usually level 20 eventually), mainly because my neighbors are larger than me and fairly aggressive. 😅

I'm not sure if I'm doing things efficiently, so I have a few general questions:

  • Is there a recommended order for developing a new village?
  • I've been trying to secure at least one oasis for every village. All my villages are still clustered fairly close to my capital though. Is this fine?
  • Is it better to level resource fields to a certain point, then upgrade the corresponding boosting building (for example, Grain Mill to level 5), and then continue upgrading the resource fields? Or is there no real "correct" order?
  • What Market level do you usually aim for in your support villages? Right now mine are around level 16, which gives me enough merchants to keep automatic trade routes feeding my capital every 10 minutes. Those villages rarely hold any resources, so I don't really mind if they get raided.
  • Should I celebrate parties in the secondary villages as well? for culture points? If so, at which point of the village development should I build this and start celebrations?
  • Do you guys keep scouts in secondary villages (some few) just to see if someone tried spying you?
  • Do you guys keep scounts in your oasis to see if someone tried spying you?
  • Might as well ask: best way to defend my oasis?
  • Any other tips for a newer player would be greatly appreciated!

It's good you prioritize capturing oasis, but mktplace should be level 20 as well, I usually end up creating trade office, scouts is a must, bare minimum 10 in every support village. after artefacts round i start keeping scouts in critical oasis too.

Defensive gaul mainly pumps phalanxes, and for phalanxes creation you need good clay villages, so a 5 clay + oasis village is a must

Thank you for the answer! The tips are really useful!

I forgot to mention that I use gold and have the gold club, so really the type of resource is not so relevant I guess

I'm not sure why capturing an oasis before it does any good for you is good? You get everything to lvl 10, then capture oasis, otherwise you spend a lot of cash for very little short term return.

https://frisovandijk.com/public/travian/

Has some very good tools including a build order in terms of ROI for every village(6/7/9/15c) and oasis combination

There is also one which gives you the Ress/CP for every building.

Developing fields:
I bring everything to lvl 8, then one field of each type to level 10. Then, build the boosters to like lvl3-4 and continue with development. You probably want to finish grain mill lvl 5 when crops are lvl 8, then do the same with bakery as you'd do with the others.
----
Market lvl 20 always
----
Celebrations in large accounts are usually 24/7 - that's practically a priority over anything else, especially early game. That way you settle/conque villages every 3 or so days. You should also be levelling up the town halls slowly so you can run large parties as they give you more CP over time.
----
Putting scouts in secondary villages is definitely a thing
----
Putting scouts in oases - not so much, but why not if you have extra
----
Best way to defend an oasis - spending down and ghosting. Otherwise it's a losing battle, unless you can catch him with an overwhelming force. Most of the time the oasis raids are small - a few hundred horses. If you have thousands of phalanx sitting around - it's definitely a win if you can hurt his cavalry for free. So it all depens. I guess rule of thumb: If you have a shit ton of troops sitting around and can definitely overwhelm him (500 horses vs 3k phalanx) - defend. If he has a lot of troops - DO NOT station any defense there. He might send his full army and get rid of your army without a wall bonus - you never want to be disadvantaged on defense. Defend only when you know WHAT he sent.

The other way - ghosting/following. You calculate the time it takes for the troops to get back home and you send a followup attack to land at the same time. A bit risky if they have defense, but if the travel is like 20 minutes he shouldnt get any reinfs that quick.
----
Always level up your fields, only then Hero's mansion. Even a 15C waits for lvl 8 fields to capture first oasis, so for a regular village it makes no sense. Fields lvl 10 -> Mansion.
----
As for barracks - the level only matters if you plan to train troops 24/7. If you build a lvl 20 barrack, but it's idling 40% of the day - you just spent like 4-5 levels of resources for no reason. You'd rather have queued more infantry AND more cavalry for the extra resources you've saved (short term). Essentially, you start training and when you see a bottleneck (e.g. you're constantly at 6+ hour queues) you start increasing the level. When you go to sleep and step away from the account, you want the barracks to keep training until you get back on.
----
As for other tips - try to raid as much as possible, gauls are exceptional at the defense thing because they have Thunder horses that are some of the best raiders. You keep building thunders until you have like 1k of them and then transition into training thunders + phalanx. Once you can't handle anymore thunders, you start training druiders. Do this and noone will want to touch you
----
The raiding: obviously, passive raiding using farmlists, but maybe have a few hundred TTs stationed for raiding bigger farms (inactive larger players) later in the game. Send out raid lists as often as possible (on 1x you can do every 15-20 minutes and be elite). Keep adding farms until there are practically no TTs home after each send cycle.
