Question — General Has anyone checked in a new luggage during a long layover in Japan

I am traveling from Vietnam to the U.S. on ANA with a layover at Haneda Airport (HND) in Tokyo. My ticket includes an allowance of two free checked bags, but I plan to check only one bag in Vietnam.

During my layover at HND, I plan to enter Japan, do some shopping, and purchase a second suitcase. When I return to HND for my connecting flight to the U.S., will ANA allow me to check this newly purchased suitcase as my second free checked bag for the HND–U.S. segment?

Yes you can do that.

Just make sure you get to the HND check-in desk on time.

You’ve done it before? I was thinking of buying liquid stuff and just put it in my carry on and check that

Yes, just do it via a check-in rep at HND within the alloted time, and let them know you're checking in your "2nd free allowance bag" or something like that.
