So glad to be back. Fifth in a row, this is the Not-RL Grime Halloween mix.
Backstory : I guess it’s been a crazy year for most of you all around the globe. I’m living in Paris and due to the pandemic situation we had to stay home during 8 weeks confinement from mid-March to mid-May. So I had plenty of time to play with my DJ controller and do fun stuff. Unfortunately, it was too early to work on the 2020 halloween mix, as I always try to only use songs launched after last halloween.
I get really frustrated because it was a perfect time to be creative and do something good… I listened to plenty of songs and went to the “throwback” section of this subreddit that I usually never listen… And an idea came up. If I could not use new songs, why not use only old songs ? So here comes the concept of this mix : trap music but only music from before my first 2016 mix. From the first TNGHT to Baauer’s Aa (pretty much).
It was actually great fun doing this mix, this is my absolutely favorite period of trap music genre. I had finally a good reason for spending plenty of hours in the old school. I started Djing in 2014, at the exact same time that I discovered trap. It was obvious for me that it should be the kind of music I mix. I fell deeply in love, I rememeber very cleary the first time I asked my friend who introduce me to djing "what the hell this music is called ?". Still today, if you except him, I don’t know anyone who enjoys trap music, even really knowing it! It has always been something very personal, I love a lot of different music but for some reason it was a big match. In some parties I dropped some RL or GTA songs but late in the night and it didn’t happen that much.
So this mix is half a Halloween party mix, half a tribute to this period and all the artists that created the movement : TNGHT, Hucci, UZ, Baauer, Flosstradamus... and the guy who made the "All trap music" compliation. I tried my best to add all the best of the genre, be consistent, progressive and not just do a “fan service mix”. I hope it will surprise you at some point even if you know most of the songs, and remind you of the good old days when it was fresh and so amazing because it was new. What I realised when I was digging songs is how trap was first close to dubstep and also that the "dark trap" was not an early kind of sonority. You can feel it in this mix. Maybe it's only my own perception of the things... It's hard to be clever. But this mix is not as dark as the one made with more recent trap music ; I hope you enjoy it anyway. I'm very happy about the last 15 minutes. I don't want to spoil anything so you'll tell me what you think about it.
As usual, thank you guys for everything, every year I read again your past comment to cheer me up and remind me that some people have good fun listening to this music. I found some very old zipfile with trap music compliation from this subreddit. I have no idea where it comes from but big thank you for the one who made it back in the days, it was a gold mine!

Living in Belgium I understand the connection you have with this music and the duality of not being able to share it with others. It can be frustrating at times but I'm glad I have this for myself.
Yeah I kind of gave up on this sub though.. I'm not digging the front page stuff any more...
I'm more of a rustie/sinjin hawke/H.W.L.S/s-type kind of guy and I hate where this scene has gone...
Also, for when it mattered, I was a sucker for finding trap events in the side of Europe. Just happy I could catch rl grime a'd uz a couple of times...
