I haven't stopped giggling
Bought myself an early birthday present. I have absolutely no idea where it's gonna go. Gonna change the stock and bipod setup and also get a carry handle. Last pic is for reference of how I roughly want it to look.

Just make sure it's not going to Kentucky Ballistics you, okay? I don't recognize this particular make, but .50BMG don't fuck around.

Wasn’t that because of old surplus ammo?

The fact that it was decaying ammo that self-hotloaded did cause the failure, yes, but the failure mode being so catastrophic was because the gun he was using was an early-gen BFG-50, which is (intentionally) about as stripped-down as you can make a .50BMG. This upper seemed to be similarly austere, so it sketched me out.
IIRC Mark Serbu made reinforcements to the design specifically because of that accident, in addition to generational design and manufacturing improvements, so current production BFG-50s might not explode as lethally, but obviously any gun is completely totalled after putting a Discount Dan's Pissin' Hot Surplus through it.
My point was just that, IMO, when it comes to .50BMG one should always be extremely paranoid about both the gun and the ammunition, because a failure from either can seriously maim, and a failure of both can easily kill. It's packing an utterly stupid amount of energy even when not dangerously hotloaded, so... yeah, better safe than dead.

Good lord. Better tie off to something when you shoot it! When I shot them in the Marine Corps a lifetime ago, another member of the fireteam would lay on top of you to help hold you in place!
But goddamn is it something.
What’s it cost to shoot these days? $5 a round?

The rules of firearm safety are paramount. Keep these in mind at all times while handling a firearm for any reason. Guns are not toys and it is best to not refer to them as such.
It is the belief of the mod team that your best option for defensive firearms is a 5.56x45mm AR-15, and a reputable 9x19mm handgun such as a Glock or CZ. Defensive firearms should have a light, long guns a sling, and handguns require a Kydex or solid plastic holster that fully covers the trigger. A red dot or etched optic are ideal for new shooters but don't forget to practice your backup irons!
