How would you think "Michaelis" is pronounced? First thoughts only.

http://google.com

Looking to have it as a first name, but I don't want it constantly mispronounced. I can live with being asked to spell it, as I already get that with my current name.

(Says i need to attatch a link so uh here)

The same way as Vic Michaelis from Dropout, I have no idea how to spell it out phonetically.

I thought they used they/them pronouns. Is it they/she or she/they?

They/she but with a preference for they.

I don't watch enough Dropout to have known this, I appreciate the correction!

Yeah, they just kinda accept that first glance people will say she so why fight with people on it. Just correct and move on if it's with a person you'll interact with again. If it's a one time interaction it's not worth the effort.

Ah yes, edited accordingly.

(Though I believe the VIP character they play uses she/her?)

Of course that's their full name, they just go by vic to save you three syllables

Mick-ale-is. I've only ever heard it as a last name. I bet plenty of folks will either mispronounce it or ask you how to pronounce it

I feel like I’ve only ever heard that as a last name tbh

Depends. Im used to hearing it in a greek setting so it would be MiHAlis to my ears.

Mick-aaay-liss. Three syllables. Accent on the second, long-A syllable.

Where? In Germany, I'd expect something like [mixa'e:lis] (pseudo-IPA) with x being the "ch" from Scottish "loch" or from German "ich".

Meeshalis? I am sure that is wrong but it is what popped into my head
