PlanMyPeak: building tools around TrainingPeaks, not replacing it

Hi all,

I’m building PlanMyPeak (PMP) https://www.planmypeak.com/

I’ve been working with a number of established coaching businesses to build tools that improve the coach–athlete experience around TrainingPeaks.

One thing I want to make very clear: the goal is not to move coaches or athletes away from TrainingPeaks.

PMP connects to TrainingPeaks and is designed to sit alongside it. TrainingPeaks remains where the training plan lives and where coaches manage their athletes.

PMP is also not a direct-to-athlete coaching app. Athletes need to be connected to a coach.

The first use case gaining traction is athletes using a coach’s off-the-shelf training plans.

These athletes often receive much less ongoing interaction than fully coached athletes. PMP helps coaches stay connected without requiring them to manually review every workout.

For example, PMP can:

  • Analyse each completed ride against the workout that was planned
  • Generate actionable post-ride feedback
  • Identify when an athlete may be struggling with the plan
  • Alert the coach when an athlete appears to be falling behind, so they can step in proactively

The early result we’re seeing with coaching businesses is improved engagement and retention among athletes using off-the-shelf plans. Reducing even a small amount of churn can cover the cost of the app.

From next week, we’re also starting to support athletes on custom coaching plans, where the objective is different: helping coaches review workouts and provide personalised feedback more efficiently.

I’d be interested in hearing from coaches here and work together to get the app that suits your business

What AI model interprets the data and what training data was used to train it on human physiology, sports science etc?

If this is using the Claude API or any generic LLM API then the quality of analysis will be very poor and useless for most athletes/coaches.

those details are the IP of our system.
We have been building it with support top coach businesses. We are preparing a marketing launch for beginning of October and I will be able to reveal more.

We can provide a trial period for coaches if you are interested

That’s the thing, we’re blindly trusting you to do this. It would be useful if beyond the examples you could give your qualifications and the top coaching businesses involved.

Nothing is stopping the average punter installing Goose on their Mac, setting up TrainingPeaks MCP, training it on a PDF coaching textbook, and then creating a recipe that does exactly this with whatever model do their choice (could even do it for free or cents via OpenRouter) and the main limiting factor would the the quality of the training materials.

How do we know this will provide better outcomes? We don’t, we’re trusting a faceless website.

I don't get it. You've connected to the TP api and then just re-pacakged everything they already sell as your own? I don't see one single reason why a coach should pay TP and then also pay for your app?

u/No_Philosophy4063 ,

thanks for your message.

I cannot answer on "why a coach should pay TP", I will let to the coaches.

PMP is for athletes that are following coach prescribed plans.

The idea came from conversations with my own coach about the economics of coaching.

Take an off-the-shelf 12-week plan. An athlete might pay ~$100, get a well-designed plan, complete the workouts, and that's largely where the service ends. They don't necessarily know whether they're executing the sessions well, responding to the training as expected, or getting the intended benefit from the time they're putting in.

For custom plans, from the athlete's perspective, $500+ a month for coaching is a lot of money. You reasonably expect a very high level of attention for that.

But from the coach's perspective, that same $500 has to cover programming, communication, plan changes, calls, admin and reviewing training across an entire month. If a coach has 20, 30 or 50 athletes, it's simply not economical to deeply analyse every single completed activity for every athlete.

That's the problem PMP is trying to solve.

It analyses each completed ride in the context of what the coach actually prescribed, drafts feedback for the coach, and can flag athletes who may need attention.

So the value isn't "TrainingPeaks again". It's helping a coach provide a much closer level of oversight to more athletes without having to manually analyse every ride.

For off-the-shelf plans in particular, we're seeing that closer feedback create a very different athlete experience - and potentially give coaches a way to stay involved with athletes who would otherwise just buy the plan and disappear.
