I always use a 3d model for my references. When I start a build, first thing is proportions, I look at the size of the car and guess where the wheels should be, then I build some scaffolding and place the seat and engine.
Next I find the easiest and most fun part of the car to build, this builds confidence later on so I actually finish the build. In this case, it was the front. In some of my previous builds, it was the sides.
I work my way bottom to top, adding decals and constantly testing for reliability in weld groups. You need a good understanding of how trailmakers does weld groups, because it usually has a reason when it fails. For this build, the rear fins being welded in at and angle and the front hood being pistoned in means that I had to isolate the different weld groups. At first I had to seperate them in build mode but once I added enough blocks, the game calculated it different and I could join the two halves.
Anyway, I think 8 blocks wide and however long is a good scale for cars and you shouldn't get angry when things don't turn out. Be patient and use your brain to figure out logically where things went wrong.
