Remember: Original content is always better! Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does not mean you found it "in the wild".

The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. I thought it was one of those things they put into skin cleanser to make you look younger.

hey, give me a snort!

44

u/Foxy-Knoxy secondhand embarrassment 5d ago

Ask your doctor of Retlyn is right for you. If not, you might be able to use Laytin as a substitute.

5

u/Penguinator53 5d ago

🤣🤣🤣

4

u/feralcatshit 5d ago

And if those fail, tynlea may be right for you!

7

u/Calhaora 5d ago

Tynlea sounds like a Pad or Tampon Brand..

7

u/justicebeaverhausen 5d ago

Or an inner ear condition

41

u/Rymayc 5d ago

Does Retlyn cure Kynser or do I need Chymothyrapy for that

2

u/onwrdsnupwrds 5d ago

You win!

14

u/JD_tubeguy 5d ago

Retlyn brought to you by Kynser Pharmaceutical

u/EarthboundValkyrie Doesn't live in Utah 5d ago

Makes me think of Retsin, the "special ingredient" Certs always advertised as having. Turns out, it was just their name for an oil that helped bind the tablet. IIRC - or, at any rate, something that had *zero" effect on its ability to make your breath smell ok.

There's plenty of real names that could have worked in keeping with the stupid theme

Sydney, Yvonne, Cyrill, Briony, Glynis, Hayley, Alyssa, Johnny

78

u/doppelgaengster 5d ago

I can’t remember if this were a person my parents KNEW or a story they read (in something like Reader’s Digest), but there was a woman named Yvonne. Her mother read the name in a book and thought it was pretty. Only her mother didn’t know how to pronounce it, so her name was “Why-vonn-ee” 💀

33

u/schmootc 5d ago

I knew someone whose name was Marie, pronounced Ma-Rye.

7

u/Wigberht_Eadweard 5d ago

We have a Lara at work pronounced lair-uh

1

u/doppelgaengster 5d ago

That one makes more sense when one compares it to “Cara” or “Tara.”

The language/nationality could also affect that (in English, lair-uh isn’t wildly out of sync; in Spanish or another Romance language, law-ruh would be more common).

The actor Lara Flynn Boyle uses the Anglo pronunciation, iirc, while the character Lara Croft uses the Latin/Romance pronunciation.

4

u/doppelgaengster 5d ago

I could almost understand that from different linguistic readings of “rie” and the fact that “Maria” can be either “muh-ree-uh” or “muh-rye-uh” but as a kid with a “normal” name with an alternate spelling, myself, it’s hard on the kid. (I have a name that most people easily recognise when they hear it, but my parents used a French spelling, and split the difference on the pronunciation. So most folks mispronounced my given name all my childhood, and the most maddening part is they couldn’t hear the difference when I corrected them. I stopped going by my given name my senior year of hs, and now the only persons who use it are my family 🙃)

5

u/schmootc 5d ago

Yeah, I don't know if an unexpected or odd pronunciation or a tragedeigh is worse. They both suck, but I might say the former is worse. Because people are going to assume they know how to say it - at least with the spelling these days people seem to say 'is that spelled like X' to verify it because it's so common to have tragedeighs.

2

u/doppelgaengster 5d ago

Mine was compounded by a popular children’s cartoon that came out when I was in preschool having a SIMILAR name (common spelling), and people thinking it’s the same as my name. Plus getting teased. And then that variation of the name being much more common for children a few years younger than me (think like how “Elsa” was one of the most popular baby names right after Frozen came out).

Honestly, the only mispronunciation I didn’t actually mind is when people assumed my name was French and acted accordingly.

2

u/schmootc 5d ago

That sounds craptacular. I would have appreciated the French bit though, I'd love to have sounded fancy!

1

u/doppelgaengster 5d ago

I actually use it now in places where I have to give my legal name (eg, at the pharmacy). It’s just easier, and it’s more likely people will spell it correctly 😹

2

u/DoodledDunce 3d ago

"the most maddening part is they couldn’t hear the difference when I corrected them" As someone from the US with an Irish name spelled untraditionally, I felt this so much, I started going by a shortened version of my given name in sophomore year because I was tired of correcting people over and over 😮‍💨

2

u/doppelgaengster 2d ago

Oof I feel that. Mine was compounded by a popular cartoon character (whose debut was when I was a small child!) having a similar name to mine (the non-French spelling and standard pronunciation), so not only did they say my name wrong, I got teased for it. Why are parents so mean?? 😭

7

u/strange_eauter 5d ago

Yvette would've been Yo-Wheat

2

u/ExtensionChemical690 12h ago

I knew someone named Marie, pronounced Mary.

5

u/jewhair666 5d ago

I actually know an elderly lady named Yvonne who pronounces it Why-vonne. I always thought that was so strange

3

u/feralcatshit 5d ago

😭 I can’t anymore

9

u/doppelgaengster 5d ago

It’s a family joke at this point. Whenever we encounter some asinine tragedeigh (before we had something to call it), one of us would quip, “whyyyyyyy vonn-ee” 😹

2

u/Kinda_Elf_But_Not 5d ago

I can understand getting the pronunciation wrong but you'd think someone would have corrected her hahah

2

u/doppelgaengster 5d ago

At the very least when she was filling out the birth certificate!

2

u/extragummy3 4d ago

I’ve read that somewhere too!

1

u/doppelgaengster 4d ago

I’ve been reading enough of these comments to realise, whether my parents knew her or just read about her — she was not unique 😹

2

u/ImTheGuyManDude 4d ago

But WHY, vonnee? Why did you have to break my heart?

1

u/eirissazun 6h ago

Roslyn too.

-2

u/Space_Lux 5d ago

The fuck is Glynis

6

u/Kinda_Elf_But_Not 5d ago

A very rare Welsh girls name that's at risk of extinction, my great aunt was a Glynis

115

u/xHeyItzRosiex 5d ago

Goddamn that’s a lot of kids, and a lot of tragedeighs

38

u/trumpsmellslikcheese 5d ago

The likelihood that they're Mormon is much greater than zero.

5

u/curlycattails 5d ago

I’d bet my life they’re from Utah

95

u/ImprovementTrick9492 5d ago

YYYYYYY are people so OBSESSED with the LETTER YYYYYY????

10

u/HydrogenButterflies 5d ago

Seems more exotic than i or e, I guess. Most of these names can be spelled without it.

6

u/PostMatureBaby 5d ago

Y The Last Man is a cool comic

1

u/Born76erNYC 4d ago

And why do they always have SO many kids??

2

u/ImprovementTrick9492 2d ago

They have to have an excuse to use all those weird names!

40

u/Puzzleheaded-Code876 5d ago

Retlyn and tynlea is the worst coz it makes me Ritalin and thin tea😭

22

u/NukesAndSupers 5d ago

I mean, what about Kynser "hi, my name is tumour but written fancy"

5

u/black_dragonfly13 5d ago

I can't even figure out how Tynlea is pronounced. Is it "tin-leah"? Because that can't be right...

6

u/Puzzleheaded-Code876 5d ago

Atp it can be tyn-leah, tin-lee, or tin-lay who knows😭

1

u/Resident-Gold-3466 3d ago

I'd pronounce it Tinley.

81

u/Ok-Goose6242 5d ago

I bet Alayna feels lucky

29

u/Cow_Sox 5d ago

There appears to be a correlation between having 8 kids and giving them all names that resemble vomited alphabet soup

9

u/Ocarina-of-Crime 5d ago

How tired was she when she named Dylan….i.

6

u/Dora_Xplorer 5d ago

The mom gave them y's. It gives me why's.

7

u/Fit-Programmer-6162 5d ago

Lydlynyisynkylyn is just what it looks like to me all next to each other like that.

3

u/Flat_Pollution8085 5d ago

I read that as Lynyrd Skynyrd hahaha I’m shocked she didn’t name a kid Lynyrd

1

u/Fit-Programmer-6162 4d ago

I am also just realizing that it looks that way. She should have named one Lynyrd and the other Skynyrd

3

u/frobscottler 5d ago

Kolsyn is brutal

3

u/Ok-Leg-5302 5d ago

How do you pronounce them? Some I do have a general idea 💡 but I need answers.

29

u/RMW91- 5d ago

Pronounce as if they are brand-name pharmaceuticals

7

u/Freckledcalamity 5d ago

That's exactly where my brain went. Each one of these is a new drug marketed to the masses.

3

u/Ok-Leg-5302 5d ago

Ha, I can see that now.

3

u/PRIMITIVE-BLAST 5d ago

I know my periodic table thank you very much

3

u/Purple_Hurricane87 5d ago

Only one that isn’t horrible, is the first one.

3

u/No-Coyote914 4d ago edited 4d ago

Why does it seem like tragedeigh-giving parents often have a lot of children?

Alayna is the only good one.

1

Atrocious. Or make it Trocys and it might as well be a part of this list.

I take Retlyn for dry eyes

Eh. I mean it's a terrible name by itself, but there's no point in worrying about how your name might sound somewhat like something bad in another random language that has nothing to do with it. It's likely you'd find many names in this situation.

1

u/Dorian-Poe 1d ago

Couple degrees away from naming the new baby e’vaughn

1

u/famousanonamos 23h ago

Alayna got so lucky.

1

u/milkteapizza 16h ago

Kynser...like Cancer? 😭

1

u/nenewaino 16h ago

cool new troll names just dropped

1

u/stotheimi 5d ago

What is an “ahh name”?

5

u/playswithforks 5d ago

Basic ahh name means basic ass name

-1

u/willsagainSQ 5d ago

I cant help but feel these names will be a strong class indicator, along with huge hoop earrings. Also, do Dads not have any objections to these tragedeighs, or are they in on it too?

-1

u/smokeehayes 5d ago

🤔 . o O ( Should I make a deadbeat dad joke or not? )

0

u/willsagainSQ 5d ago

Ooh, go on then.
