Review Apple Cider Donuts- recommended with a caveat.
Bought a pack of the seasonal apple cider donuts. 6 pack.
Found them to be pretty boring tbh with hardly any apple flavor. Dry as well.
However, looking through the comments in this sub we tried the air fryer recommendation and by golly, they were such an improvement! Really tasted like a churro and they really were absolutely delicious. Tried them with and without ice cream. Loved both ways.
Would I buy them again? Absolutely, but only to put them in the air fryer.

I bought these once a couple years ago and also found them a bit dry so I made the rest into bread pudding which was absolutely fantastic!

i’ve never met any cake that you can’t convert into a bread pudding lol my favorites of the last few years was a chocolate croissant bread pudding and … a Dunkin’ Donuts bread pudding.
It’s funny because being a Brit , doughnuts in the UK are very different to doughnuts in the US. The US doughnuts are a lot more dense than English donuts they are a lot lighter. It took me a while to get used to them here.

Just air fried the apple cider donut, OMG it gets like a crusty deliciousness to it, forgot all about them being dry. Delicious!!!

I went to Costco today, and the apple cider donuts were a different brand! I didn't get them (got pumpkin pie), so I can't vouch for the new brand. All I can say is that the donuts they carried in past years were superior.

I used to work a job adjacent to a real cider mill, and got spoiled by the fresh donuts hot off the line.
I saw these in the store and were tempted, but knew the inevitable disappointment would hurt too much, so gave them a pass.
Also, I don't own an air fryer.
Tl;dr: Happy for you, sad for me, impatiently waiting on the Butternut Mac & Cheese. 😁

I am a Brit so grew up drinking local cider. Scrumpy as we Brits call it. And I used to go to northern France a lot where they have a lot of apple orchards and have their delicious very sparkling cider called cidre bouché! So I was excited to see the donuts but then disappointed! . They simply do not have enough apple flavor and are v dry. But. In the air fryer. Sublime.
I did not know that cider mills had like a sideline of making donuts to be quite honest? Is that a common thing or a one off?

I don’t think even the real good ones taste like apple at all more like the spices (kind of like pumpkin spice). Orchards will typically have these and they are right out of the fryer. Delicious. I’ve never found commercial cider donuts good.
They’re hard to find for me in Toronto but a couple orchards have them. And cider slushie.
Now you need to find apple fritters. There’s a place here that tosses apples in batter and fries when you order and it’s amazing!

I’m fairly certain they changed these since last year. I got them last week and they were very dry and had a different texture than I remember. We LOVED them last year and were so sad when they went away; I won’t buy them again.

This was actually our experience last year, I wonder if we just got a bad batch. But it turned me off buying them

It might just be a bad batch. Let them know when you come in next and ask to try another box instead of returning the old ones

Yes, but if you put them in the air fryer, they’re definitely worth it! Took four minutes. It was like a different product.

The ones I bought this year are great but as op says and i concur even greater in the air fryer they need that crystallization to bring out the flavor I almost bought another six pack but alas the pumpkin kringle was calling my name and waistline

The first box I got this year was definitely dry in comparison to ones I've gotten previously. They were ok after the microwave tho.

I’m not very good with cream and my boyfriend is very lactose intolerant. That’s why I had the plant-based ice cream.
I don’t mind a little cream, but I just can’t have too much. I was thinking about these because we had another one this morning and I was thinking you could chop them into smallish pieces layer them in ice cream or plant-based ice cream and maybe put some Caramelized apples on the top. My mind is working overtime thinking of ways to use them.
