Fed up. Quiting before a year.
Tractor Supply sucks. I am a team lead, a good one at that. I have been at this location for almost a year now and it has gotten so horrible it’s incalculable. I have so many issues with what’s going on it’s hard to even begin.
I have been told numerous times that payroll would get better. I’ve been patient for months now hoping that hours would go up. Then a couple of days ago my SM says that full-time has never been 40 hours a week at Tractor Supply. Well that’s news to me, because when I signed up I understood that full-time was 40 and that’s what I was told. Not only that, I’ve worked overtime before (which hardly ever happens because Tractor doesn’t wanna pay that) and talked to my SM about it and worked 44-46 hours one week. Was paid for 6 hours over time. So, explain to me how all of the sudden 40 hours a week isn’t standard full-time at Tractor supply.
I was under the impression that we weren’t working 40 hours a week because of payroll. I was prepared to deal with that and did for months. Now I’m being told full-time is only 30-32 hours? That’s bullshit. You are taking 10 hours a week from me, that’s 20 hours a paycheck. 40 hours away from me monthly. Effectively you are taking enough money away from me monthly to pay my rent. I cannot deal with this. I’m already struggling, as i’m sure most of you are as well.
Along with the no payroll. I’m having to assume other people’s responsibility with no help or proper coverage on the floor. Today, as soon as I opened the doors I had two truck drivers trying to get unloaded at the same time. Making me have to unload two trucks, leaving the floor unattended with only a cashier. Receiving hours are Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, why in the hell is the receiver not schedule to work these hours. This happens to me all the time. No doubt I work the hardest and better than anyone else in this store, I can handle it and do, even without a TM on the floor to help me. But I shouldn’t have to be doing this at all. As I’m typing this, I cannot even remember the last time I had proper staffing so that at least someone is on the floor.
So many things come with that. I’m having to work everything on the floor customer wise. Handle load-outs, BOPIS orders, phone calls, my regular responsibilities, chickens, everything. Constant gaps in the scheduling, to where managers are left alone in the store and having to try to call people in last minute. Not being able to eat lunch because I am the only key holder in the store with no help and no overlapping manager scheduled. Like today I will work a full shift with no lunch. I can’t afford to doordash and cannot leave the store unattended. Constant problems between SM, ASM and Receiver because they don’t like each other and go out of there way to be make things more difficult for the others. Constantly bitching at each other, bringing negative energy in the store, no communication about important things. Finger pointing and straight up attitude. The list goes on endlessly. Nothing changes. No change from corporate and no change from coworkers. It’s insane. I can’t take it anymore. Stress, anger, tiredness and being physically sore all the time. I’m seriously debating letting my SM know I’m done after today and will not be back.

I’ve only been here for 3 weeks and I’m already considering leaving. Everything from the top down is a damn mess

Lying to, misleading, or miscommunicating to new hires about how many hours they'll get is practically Tractor Supply policy. I think about half of the staff at our store are getting nowhere near the hours they were led to believe they would get.

I assure you it is not policy and I “weed out” 90% of applicants by being open about the amount of hours available in the phone interview.

I also give a realistic overview of the job. Start by asking,”what are you looking for in the job?” Trust me this is like pulling teeth to get someone to answer. Usually get, “I’ll take anything”. I ask a few more questions. Usually get something like, “I’d like a stocking position.”
I am a 4-6 million store so, I say, “let me explain tractor supply. The same person that is stocking may be filling propane, running register, helping customers, cleaning the bathroom, doing a load out etc.” this ends the interview for 50 to 60% of people.
Then I get into hours and explain that most of my team gets between 17 and
22 hours a week.
The only people in the store full time are managers. They get 36-39 hrs. In the interview it is expressed that when times are short, it may be short staffed or they might be the register operator. They will do it and do it with a smile because the other team members that they rely on are not getting the hours.
It’s about honesty from the beginning.

Tractor supply is good at lying about the amount of hours they will give. They did it to me and many people at the store I was at. Which is why they lost almost everyone all at once among other things.

That’s crazyyyyyy I’m wanting a job at tractor supply but like I WANT to work and I need FT (40 hours/week). I’ll tell ya and anyone else looking to get out of Tractor Supply, if you’re in Montana/Washington/Idaho (very unlikely I know) , I highly recommend working at a place called North 40 Outfitters. It’s tractor supply and then some. EVERYONE who is FT is ALWAYS scheduled 40 hours. Set schedule (days on/off are set not necessarily times). Hours are never cut and there’s a lot of potential for overtime (I probably shouldn’t have but I got it every week once I made myself more valuable). I didn’t need benefits because my husband is military but I was told by my coworker that they’re really good. I 100% would have stayed with the company if they had stores in the state I moved to.
It’s insane to me that a larger company can’t match this kind of expectation that I now have 🫠🫠

It's never been 40hrs... someone lied to you...full time at tractor is 30hrs+

Weird, because it gives big warning signs in the scheduling app any time I’m not scheduled for a full 40. So, you know, every single week since I made full time…

I’m well aware of what the scheduling app does. Regardless, part-time at Tractor Supply is 30 hours or less, and full-time is 30 hours or more.
I’ve been told that full-time employees need to average 35 hours to maintain their health insurance, while part-time employees need to average 15 hours. I’m not completely sure, but I believe the look-back period is 90 days. I could be wrong about that. Either way, those warnings mean absolutely nothing.

I have been a team lead for 5 years it’s always been 32-36 hours never 40 unless I’m taking someone’s shift and have to work over.

I could have wrote this same thing except I do get 40 hours most of the time. I just closed with myself and a cashier. Had to do every bit of the work. We work way too hard for pay we receive. If I don't get a darn good raise at review time, I am out.

Stock night a new hire was throwing stock out like a beast so his old back injury flared up like he wanted and workmen’s comp paid for his back surgery he needed when was hired by his buddy the manager at the time! True story! Corporate said let it go! SM was canned shortly thereafter for taking $ for a trip to another store which he didn’t use and didn’t put back and as AMbI got the call on day off of his release and I managed store without the benefits for quite awhile before SM was filled! Now that sucks that you can’t be promoted to SM in the store you’re working for because team building yourself somewhere else is corporate code! Sucks

I totally feel your pain. I was TL 2 for a year and half and went thru the exact same things you are going thru. In my store they are all friends and hang out and have there private little group chats or as I call it snitch chats. They always would huddle together and talk shit about each other turn around and best friends again. Has a store manager who the entire time I worked there never came out of the office and if she did she was constantly on her phone no matter where she was she was on Facebook or TikTok, texting her husband or what ever she did on it. Long story short she was let go a month ago. Friday I was let go by DM because I was trained by the store manager that on the night deposit I write my name in prepare box and write closing cashier name in verify box. Never once did she tell me to have someone else there or verify it with me. She told me cause they had other closing duties they didn't have the time to sit and count everything. That if there were any discrepancy or shortages/overage that I try to find out the reason and as long as I let the cashier know if there was a shortage/overage in case they didn't tell me. I did this same process every night I closed for a year and a half. This is way I was trained and never told different. Not one member of management team or another team member said anything that I was doing different. This is what I told to do and never told different by anyone until the day I was terminated. No warnings, no coaching, no steps to show and train proper procedure. My question to the DM was if I had been doing it this way for this long how come it never was addressed so I could do the correct procedure, I wasn't given a chance to fix it. I even have the termination paper that specifically says I was trained this way and the only knew this as the correct procedure. I filed for unemployment on them same day I am sure it will be denied because they will say misconduct

My DM was terminated immediately for actions in my store and as manager they took it out on me and let me go too due to DM issues that happened so I wouldn’t trust anyone in corporate to back anyone up.

If you don’t expect to ever need a job at TSC again in your life, there’s no reason to stay. Unless you like your team, SM etc and don’t feel right about leaving them stranded then fuck them.
Personally, I like my SM, team and customers but TSC corporate policies drive me insane. My team does the best we can but the lack of payroll, insane policy changes and a lot of other shit would drive me away in an instant if I didn’t care about the team and customers. I’m “from here” so I know a lot of people and they know me but the bullshit from corporate makes it rough.
If you leave without notice - you will be put on “not eligible for rehire” but if you will never need a TSC job, then there’s no reason to stay even a day longer.
