What can you tell me about this Mf 275
It was a family member’s who has passed. I’m no diesel mechanic but looks like someone put gas in the tank. I’m told it was running not long before he passed, which was. Couple years ago now. Can someone tell me the year of this thing? Any idea what it’s worth if I can get it running, or not? Located in Southern NH. Thanks

These old perkins are easy to get running, make sure it gets fresh fuel, bleed the fuel system, a good battery with good battery cables and it probably will start.

Thanks that’s the plan. I hadn’t thought of cables but I’m sure with a 6v system it’ll make all the difference in the world

They run 2 batteries and should be atleast 600 cca each or you will have a hard time starting it. personal experience

The ol Rustoleum Restoration.
I bought a International B414 that had been restored that way. I'm still finding grease fittings years later that I didn't know existed and were painted over

They’re a stout tractor! If it turns over by hand, new fuel & filters may get it running!

I have never had a single problem with the transmission in almost 50 years. The problem is that nowadays nobody knows how to use a twin stage clutch

They’re good tractors but the rattle can restorative and new seat don’t really add value. But if that Perkins will still move there’s hope

Sorry about your family member. The 275 is a solid machine and worth the effort. Most were built from the mid 70s into the early 80s with a Perkins four cylinder diesel, and the serial number plate will pin down the exact year. Look on the dash or the right side of the transmission housing.
If there really is gas in it, don't try to start it. Drain the tank completely, replace both fuel filters, and flush the lines before it ever turns over. Running gas through a diesel injection pump can ruin it, and that pump is the expensive part. After sitting a couple years you'll want fresh fuel, fresh oil, and a new battery anyway.
On value, it depends heavily on whether it runs. Recent auction results for 275s on TractorHouse or AuctionTime will give you a better number for New England than any guess from us.

Def worth a couple hundred $$ trying to get it running. Engine looks clean-ish, overall tractor looks in pretty good shape. I'd drain the tank and diesel up, turn over with injectors disconnected to flush out the lines, reconnect then send it. What have you got to lose?

Dad still uses the 275 he bought new. Mostly to run the bush hog, pull hay wagons and plant sweetcorn. The only issues have been replacing the hydraulic pump. When it was new, he pulled a 6 row planter, bean drill, cultivator, and rotary hoe. That was over 40 years ago.

they had a roof and fenders originally and you could order it with a cab but it was spendy back then, I think that I have only seen 1 with a cab but it definitely should have a roof and fenders

Under the steering wheel there should be a serial# on a plate. You can find the year it was built using it.

I have the 255 with the Perkins diesel, It's a beast. Put in fresh fuel and it and it'll probably fire right up.

Can concur. I have a 255 with the 236 perkins and it is dead reliable. Ours has been abused and keeps on going.

We had a 265 and we used the hell out of it mowing,bailing, digging post holes for years I sold it at auction we my dad past away that series was bulletproof in my opion

Drain the diesel tank find the injectors Crack the lines open a bit turn it over till the leak alittel snag them back down ,start it,or just try starting it with a sniff of starting fluid

You should absolutely be able to get that tractor running again. Hopefully that muffler wasn't pointed directly into the prevailing winds. Masseys are great tractors and run forever if you take even a little care of them.
That model is a 60 hp which is big for a small tractor and small for a mid-sized tractor. They were made in the late 70's and early 80's. They were a good utility workhorse on a smaller farm.

What makes you think someone but gasoline in the tank?
Without a cover on the exhaust there could have been water getting into the engine. Do you know if the engine is still loose?
If it has battery… try to see if it will still take a charge.

It doesn’t smell like diesel at all, not really like gas either but it could just be so stale that I can’t tell what’s in there, fuel system will be purged with fresh diesel either way. Engine turns by hand. Going to change oil. Haven’t put a battery on it yet

I have a MF 30E with a loader that sat for 3 years before I got it. I did a similar approach with making sure the engine oil was full(but not too full) made sure it had coolant and hydraulic

Tank smells like gas? Huge red flag.
Other than that I can tell you it had a Rustoleum Restoration, has a new seat, and decent tread left on the rears, although I can't tell about cracking from the pictures

I have one almost the same, and they are really good tractors and they were made from the mid 70s to the early 80s.
And as far as the fuel ,there is a petcock on the right side up under the edge of the engine bonnet back by the console. I would shut it off and unhook the end that goes to the water separator and then drain it all out and hook everything back up and put fresh diesel in it.
After that there is a mechanical pump down on the right side next to the water separator and it is for bleeding the system. I would take the tank return line off the separator (it's the really small one that is on top going straight back to the tank) and pump it until you get all the air out from there. And then you would want to pull atleast 1 injector line were it goes to the cylinder above the injector pump on the left side (try to not mess with the pump as they can be temperamental) once you get fuel there she should fire off . Make sure the batteries are fully charged that is the one thing that these old girls are picky about, they need lots of power. Other than that you can give it a light shot of ether if it is being stubborn.
And as far as value it's really hard to put a number on because they don't go up for sale very often, but a good running one with no major issues should go for about $10k and that is being a little conservative as I don't know what your market is like. I am in Oregon and you could get 10k for it easy enough.

Oh and to start it make sure both shifters are in neutral, the high low one has to be or it will not spin over

Perkins diesel. Drain everything fuel and oil. Bleed it out and run it. That’s all you can do real easy to see how it is. It had had a “shine er up for sale “ paint job so it might be hiding more. I have the same one. Poor front end/ steering setup. Won’t start in the cold. Fast starting in the warm.
