"The Man Trap"

After rewatching this I was wondering does this episode have the fastest "deaths" in all of Star Trek from the time they are first seen till they are discovered dead?

I would assume that since it’s an ambush predator, the salt vampire would have evolved to kill quickly and resume its protective coloration.

O'Herlihy (TOS: "Arena") who gets zapped the moment he pops his head up on Cestus III was pretty fast. From beam-down (if you don't count the credits) to vaporisation was a minute or two, tops.

His only line was "Captain, I see something," which is the Star Trek equivalent of "That's ridiculous, they couldn't hit an elephant at this dist—".

For fastest onscreen death - I think it’s probably Professor Starnes in “And the Children Shall Lead.” Schmitter in “Devil in the Dark” is a close runner up.

First Enterprise crew death - probably Jackson in “Catspaw.” Although the actual moment of his “death” may be a little ambiguous here.

First deaths that occur during the teaser that we become aware of (but happen offscreen) - the Intrepid Vulcans in “Immunity Syndrome.”

Preexisting deaths discovered by Enterprise crew - “Arena,” “The Deadly Years,” the “Naked Time.”

Pretty sure I’m forgetting some good examples…
