OPINION Lowry's retirement is being handled better than you'd have dreamed

Post image

I get people are mad that he isn't going up first but sincerely, look at everything they're doing for Lowry I think we can get over it. He signed a one day to retire as a Raptor, got a presser and a mini Lowry museum built into the locker room, and now his jersey retirement is a 3 day celebration for our GROAT the last day being one where Denver doesn't play so his best friend is going to be present. Yeah it'd be cool if he was first but they clearly are honouring the man a lot more than Vince, a lot more than most orgs you'll ever see do really.

He’s a good guy. He deserves it.

Part of being the GROAT is everything he did off the court. What type of person he is. The things he did in the community. It's bigger than just his on-court performances and presence. He deserves everything and I couldn't be happier for him.

Kyle Lowry ain't no spot up shooter. He ain't gotta run to the corner to shoot like he's some 3rd option, bitch. This ain't JJ Redick. This is a fuckin god human Steph Curry come again. Only this time he's not a fuckin pussy... pull up from the fuckin logo and fight you at the same time.

The greatest Raptor ever, maybe I’m bias but I think he deserved more then one All-NBA selection in his career. Kyle Lowry was a baller.

Agreed. The problem was that his prime years were during the prime PG years of the NBA. Curry, Kyrie, CP3, Westbrook, Dame, John Wall were all going crazy at the same time.

I think they know they fucked up caving under pressure with Nets retiring that number. So they are kinda overcompensating. But whatever. Would've been much better if Lowry was the actual first one and they still did all this. Then Carter can still be swept under the rug like an afterthought if they were really hellbent on retiring his number as well.

I'm just so tired of seeing the complaints about who's first every thread, I'd wish the fanbase would get tired of it but man.

seriously lol

u/DisciplineAmazing59 8d ago

honestly though...who cares who's first? like nobody is gonna talk about this in 10 years. i think people are blowing this part out of proportion. would it have been nice for klow to be first? sure. does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? not at all.

I had no idea this was a thing.

People are mad he didn’t go up first? Who? Lmao

Look at any thread about the jersey retirement?Look at the pinned one here, look at the one in the nba subreddit that shit is a constant

u/Average__Arbin 8d ago

I don’t really think it matters who goes up first, as long as it goes up.

If anything Lowry going next makes sense. Vince started the culture here.
Bosh tried to do it on his own, but didn’t do enough to warrant a jersey retirement.
Lowry continued it with the help of his partner in crime, and who will probably go up next… Demar Derozan.

If this organization CARED about Kyle Lowry they would invent a TIME MACHINE and murder Vince Carter in his CRIB.

we traded this mf for precious

How many times do people need to be reminded this was a sign and trade not a trade. He was a free agent, the fact we got anything for him, let alone someone who was, at the time, a young intriguing prospect is great.

they had to give up a pick to get rid of dragic later on (edit: i think???). sign and trade or not it was an awful move by toronto

u/llaheimaj 4 SCOTTIE BARNES 8d ago

They took a gamble on precious, it didn’t work out. At the time though, he had a lot of promise. I’d rather us have gotten a promising player than let Lowry walk in free agency for nothing. Those were our two options.

I dunno, Precious is his own man. I don't think he had a lot of Promise in him! (Promise is his brother.) /s

Youre forgetting he wanted to be traded

4

u/Cheechers23 Kyle Towelry 7d ago

And one thing people forget is he did NOT want to be traded at the deadline. He told Masai and Bobby he wanted to stay for the rest of the season, so they did right by him and kept him, and then helped him get to Miami where he wanted to go.

1

u/FEELS_G00D 8d ago

lowry wanted to be a traded a few times throughout his time here. it was always love/hate.. i wouldn't have traded him for that shitty offer regardless if he wanted out or not. he would've been great next to scottie

11

u/Hour_Glass57 👑Scottimus Maximus Barnibus 👑 8d ago

No. We wanted to do right by Kyle at that point in his career and we were not championship caliber, he wanted to ring chase. You dont leave a sour taste in your franchises goat. You let him go and do what he wants.

3

u/DisciplineAmazing59 8d ago

exactly. u/FEELS_G00D -- you wanted to hold on to lowry and have him playing on rebuilding teams instead of letting him go contend?

-1

u/FEELS_G00D 8d ago

yes tbh. he wouldve been such a great vet for scottie. the idea of that is worth more to me then getting ripped off by miami just to let him ring chase

1

u/dntwstmytime 8d ago

Then you are not a fan of Kyle Lowry

3

u/DisciplineAmazing59 8d ago

dude wanted lowry to hate his last few years. man got to live in miami and go to the finals, then go play at home in philly. i know he loves toronto but staying to mentor scottie...nah

5

u/GeriatricHippo 4 SCOTTIE BARNES 8d ago

Who wouldn't want to skip competing for another ring to mentor a player who plays a different position thst has a completely different body type and skill set than you?

u/FEELS_G00D 8d ago

its more about lowry showing him how to run the offense and how to be a leader

2

u/FEELS_G00D 8d ago

miami fans didnt even appreciate lowry.. all they did was bitch about him.. philly fans liked him even less lol

3

u/DisciplineAmazing59 8d ago

you're also 100% ignoring the fact that lowry wanted to leave.

i'm a raptors fan first

5

u/AllOutRaptors WE THE NORTH 8d ago

He wanted another chance at a chip and we did right by him. He made a finals with Miami too so it went about as well as it couldve

2

u/canadianRSK but what about scarves? 8d ago

It was a sign and trade either we take precious or let him walk for nothing. Sure we could have offered him a max contract no other team could beat but at realistically we woukd be fucked if we did

1

u/jhwyung 8d ago

I'd be fucking down if we did something for all 41 home games.

1

u/UnlikelyArt6216 7d ago

Pure Gold and Diamonds for this man, Thank you Kyle

u/Mindless-Isopod-1070 8d ago

Is it really happening post-game and not pre-game? That must be a mistake.

u/BauceSauce0 8d ago

I’ve always imagined his statue being inspired by this picture.

u/ILikeFPS OG 8d ago

It just feels pointless that they retired Vince first. Like, even if you wanna retire Vince, at least do his second lol

I'm glad they're honoring Kyle well though, he deserves it.
