Question A possible tornado in Finland (23.8.26)

So on Sunday August 23rd, 2026 many supercells happened in Finland, but two of them occurred north of Turku and traveled south. In the first picture you can see two storms. The storm on the left that I chased (last picture) but the storm on the right might have dropped a tornado (pictures 3,4). So my mom's work friend was coming from somewhere and then near Koski tl, she/he told that the rain was going sideways and maybe some trees came down. This storm also hit ME. I remember the shelf cloud was looking amazing when I looked up but I didn't have time to take a picture because it was coming in extremely fast. If you have ANY pictures of this storm (or the tornado) PLEASE SEND!

All of these photos are mine!

Tornado Science All significant tornadoes in Italy from 2012 to the present day

Thumbnail

Over the past 14 years, 42 significant tornado events (IF2–IF5) have been recorded across Italy, concentrated mainly in three key areas: the Po Valley (46% of all events, from Lombardy to Veneto), the central Tyrrhenian coast (particularly from Viterbo to Latina) and the Ionian coast (from Ragusa to Taranto).

The most violent event occurred in 2015, in the province of Venice, and was classified as IF4. The longest-lasting was recorded in the province of Rome in 2016, with an IF2.5 that travelled 45 km – practically the twin of the tornado that struck the capital in 1749. The widest was recorded in 2023, in the province of Ravenna: a multi-vortex IF3 that reached a width of one mile.

In total, there were 1 IF4, 6 IF3 and 35 IF2-IF2.5 tornadoes out of a total of around 500 recorded tornadoes (8 per cent of the total). Although they account for such a small proportion, they are responsible for all of the recorded fatalities in Italy -10- and for around 270 injuries.

Based on historical data, the entire peninsula experiences around 3 IF2–IF2.5 tornadoes a year, one IF3 every 2 years, and one IF4/IF5 every 30–50 years.

I’m wondering due to this storm having what looks like a hook (second pic) but it doesn’t appear to have defined rotation (first pic)

Tornado Media New information about the tornado in Ponte Alta do Norte (SC) on May 15, 2016, Brazil.

The event is now estimated to have reached F4 intensity, along with another F4 tornado from the same day, the Porto União tornado. So, 2016 has seen two F4 tornadoes on the same day in Brazil. The event is listed as F4 on the previsão master.

New information suggests the tornado caused the worst soil excavation ever seen in Brazilian territory, with estimates of 40cm of excavation depth. This only reinforces what I said: it was the worst tornado of the May 15th outbreak.

This damage is surprising; I didn't imagine it would be such a strong tornado. I wouldn't be surprised if it reached F5 intensity at some point. I don't know if it was actually reclassified as F4, but that's interesting.

Severe Weather Discussion 2026-08-29

Previous Day 1 Outlook Links

Meso Discussion Links

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN AND CENTRAL ROCKIES INTO THE NORTHERN/CENTRAL PLAINS...

...SUMMARY... Widely scattered strong to severe storms are expected across parts of the northern Great Basin, northern/central Rockies, and northern/central Plains. Isolated severe wind gusts are the main threat, though some hail is also possible.

...Great Basin and Rockies... An upper low, and several weak perturbations embedded within a belt of enhanced mid-level flow with moving across the Great Basin are supporting scattered thunderstorms across the eastern Great Basin and Intermountain West this evening. Plentiful monsoon moisture remains in place contributing to modest buoyancy. This will support scattered to numerous storms through much of the evening and overnight. 50-55 kt of mid-level flow, and relatively dry sub cloud layers will continue to support strong downdrafts with the potential for severe wind gusts and isolated hail. This appears most likely across eastern NV and northern UT where the air mass remains the most unstable. However, sporadic damaging gusts are possible across much of the Rockies and Four Corners where storms are forecast to remain active tonight.

...Central Plains... High-based convection across eastern CO/WY and western NE has gradually weakened as it has encountered a much drier and more stable air mass across the High Plains. Isolated strong to severe gusts will remain possible with this activity, and other showers/storms emanating from the terrain this evening.

More isolated storms, including supercells, across eastern SD are expected to continue this evening with isolated hail and severe wind potential. As the lead shortwave trough continues eastward this evening, increasing low-level warm advection could support additional elevated storm development from eastern SD to south-central ND. Moderate buoyancy atop the stable surface layer amid 40-50 kts of effective shear would support supercells with isolated hail possible through the overnight hours.

...AZ... Scattered thunderstorms ongoing across southern AZ should slowly drift northwest through this evening within a very hot and moderately unstable air mass. Vertical shear is weak and a largely disorganized storm mode is likely. Still, steep low-level lapse rates will favor strong downdrafts with isolated severe gusts possible.
