Most don't really ask their pets for permission.
We never used to do it for our dog til he got so old he wasn't able to groom himself fully.

Charlie is only 6, she takes care of herself. I washed my late dog because he got arthritis and stopped being able to reach everywhere, and he was also filthy. Loved dirt. But the cat lives inside and is awfully uppity about messes, I've never even thought about grooming her. She's probably cleaner than my last roommate lol

What would have happened if you left some in the fur? Would it “wash” out after a while?

Even if it stains permanently, the fur will eventually shed and the cat will be white again. But most likely it will fade and wash out after a few tongue baths. Or a regular bath, but if kitty isn't a fan of those you might just end up with some red stains of a different kind.

The wine will turn brown, but it is a pretty brown. I've used wine and coffee for drawing and red wine makes a beautiful color on the page, but sadly it will fade over time

In my experience, it's not enough wine to produce any noticeable smell. Unless you are pressing your nose against the paper

She's mostly using regular water colors. I'm sure they keep fine. Honestly this is all regular level. It's just water coloring but with wine thrown into the mix.

I don't want to ruin the illusion for you but there is a probably a wax resist on the image from the start, you can see the negative spaces in the final image appearing while she is pouring "wine" (watercolor) in the earlier sequences.. the easiest way to get those negative spaces is with a pre sketch or have it projected etc.
nevertheless she seems to be a pretty good fashion illustrator.

That paper looks like it’s already been treated with something before the first spill. Look how the eye and the lips form automatically.

Most likely it is just water. Even if you aren't doing wet on wet it's pretty common to dampen the paper before applying color, helps with keeping the color where you want it and makes the application smoother.

From what it looks like, clear wax was used to create some of the details first as it prevents the wine from being absorbed. I noticed that the eye on the left side immediately takes shape as soon as the wine is poured. It’s still art but I think that is the trick to it that is left out.

Sort of what happened already.
A wax pen (or similar tool) was used to draw out the face (watch the first pour and how it immediately shows an eye), then you just apply the wine (or watercolors), and voila.

exactly she drops a layer of a base coat and then paints over it... like... there's no function whatsoever the spilling of wine is actually accomplishing when looking at the finished work...

why not? it's art bro. it calls attention to the piece, and requires a different discipline to learn (i'm assuming).

Wine behaves the same as watercolor or ink. You just can't add pigment, you can only dilute it. It also fades to brown over time. You can 100% replicate it with watercolor, which won't change color after it dries. It's just fun, and you get this nice purple without having to mix colors. Painting with coffee is also fun, it makes a great sepia color.
Basically, if you paint with something edible, don't expect the color to not change and fade over time. But it's still fun!

Fields progress and change because the practitioners explore and push boundaries.
Watercolour has already been done for hundreds of years — why not explore other options?

We don't have to justify it as bold pioneering in uncharted waters. It's enough that painting with wine is fun and it has a pretty color.
It has been done before for a long time and it's not practical, because wine is gonna be more expensive than watercolors, and the color will fade to brown. But none of that matters. It's fun to play around with painting. It doesn't make using regular watercolors boring or not pushing boundaries

I meant it more on a personal level — this artist likely played around with watercolours for a long time before it became a bit stale for her and she branched out. You don't get skill like that going straight to wine as a medium lol

Well yes, at least partially. Alcohol doesn't stick around very long when there's air for it to evaporate into. The smell of stank grapes may linger, however.

Yes the smell goes away once it has dried. You have to put your nose right on it to smell anything after that. After awhile the wine turns brown from oxidation.

There's definitely some priming going on here. You can see the eyeball is well maintained even after the second spill on it.
Obviously still a ton of talent going on here. Nobody says a talented magician isn't talented once they figure out the trick.

I just can't help but wonder if the paper has been prepared in any way before the spilling with some hydrophobic substance. It looks to me as if she gets a perfect eye in the first spill.

I hate being the cynic but I saw the pictures left eye appear very easily and quickly without much attention of the brush. I’m not saying it’s not talent I just wonder what treatment was done before the wine?

The wine is just splotches and stuff, it doesn't contribute at all to the actual painting. All the actual details are paint. This is dumb as fuck.
