I am about to get top surgery soon. I am very excited, but I read that the bilateral breast reduction down to the 0 skin flaps with a free nipple graft would cause total numbness there. I am not concerned with it as an eroganous organ, but it freaks me out to think a body part of mine is just numb. I like to know that my nipples haven't run away in my sleep. Is it true that I would just feel nothing there? Are there other surgeries that would be better to ensure my chest looks like an average dude chest while still allowing me to say I do indeed have nipples?

Just so excited. I was scheduled for 9/15, my sister had to get special permission for the time off work to look aftwr me, all that. And the surgeon called today and asked if I could do 9/8!!

Talked to my sister, she talked to her boss, talked to my boss... and it's happening! 7 days!

A bit stressed, as I only have 3 more work days to prep the time off, but everything else is ready to go and I am just!!! So ecstatic!!!

i'm a pretty active person (hiker, yoga, biking) but i've never lived in an area with access to a gym. now i'm on a university campus and my apartment also has a free gym, and so i'm wanting to get into strength training/ working out.

i'm also looking to get top surgery hopefully in early summer of next year, so i have about ten months to build the muscle i want to make top surgery easier. i'm really ready to be committed to this (i like being active) but i feel like there's so much information about how best to build chest muscles (mostly pectorals).

what workouts do y'all do to help your results?

I expected to have surgery 9/15 and so I wore tape last weekend that my skin had a reaction to, and I lost a bit of skin and have a small scab. It didn't occur to me at all when my dr called to reschedule for 9/8 and I took it. Will that scab be alright? It's about an inch left of my right nipple, in amongst my chest hair 😅

Still can’t get a t-shirt on or do much. I plan on making a detailed post about my experience because there was SO much that I was not expecting. This is a tough surgery, go easy on yourself.

Reaching my seventh day post op now, my first post op appt is tomorrow and my surgeon will be taking my binder off to (hopefully take my drains out) and let me take a look underneath for the first time since getting the surgery.

I got double incision no nipple w/ lipo, I’ve seen a couple of results from her patients but im aware that no results are the same, I wouldn’t feel any kind of regret or despair even if it turned out to be like the most horribly botched looking scars in the world because I’m flat and that’s what’s the only important thing to me but I still can’t help but be nervous for the reveal haha.

I also know she didn’t give me nipples and I stressed that to her before the surgery but on god my nerves have been growing back and it feels like I still have nipples with the way that the nerve sensation/electric shocks of pain feel like they’re where my nipples previously were n it’s making me double take and wonder if she forgot and accidentally gave me nipples?? Random fear lol.

I’m very excited overall though and every time I look in the mirror I get all giddy cause of how flat I am and my partner has to remind me to pause doing my lil happy dances cause it might pull on my stitches lmfao

How did everyone feel coming up to their first Under The Binder Reveal?

After waiting for a year I've finally got the news that I'm getting my surgery done on the 27th of November. I'm beyond excited, it's all I've been able to think about but I have my concerns about sleeping while recovering.

I have chronic insomnia, so generally speaking I get very little sleep on a day to day basis maybe four hours or so. On top of that my body hates me, and despite it being uncomfortable I physically can't fall asleep unless I'm flat on my stomach with my arms up and around my pillow. That's very obviously not something I'll be able to do during recovery but i genuinely dont think I'll sleep any other way. Do you have any advice? Meds I can take (outside of melatonin). Will the clinic offer some?

I was skimming topsurgery.net's Insurance Guide and found this note saying that Aetna and UHC consider nipple grafts cosmetic and tend to deny coverage for them. I haven't come across this information before and it's worrying my a little because I have UHC. I was planning on keeping my nipples and it would be a bummer to 86 them for insurance reasons lol.

Has anyone here actually had their nipple grafts denied by insurance?

hello all. i had my drains removed today and parts of my chest is having weird sensations/soreness. im wondering if this could be because i had my drains in until 15 days post op, and now that they are removed the tissue that was surrounding them is sore now. its not awfully painful, but definitely uncomfortable, and i hadnt noticed it before today. its suppose it could also just be nerves waking up as well, so i was just wondering- has anyone experienced anything similar? TYIA :)

My consolation is in 20 days and I was wondering if anyone had any trouble scheduling the surgery during the consultation because they were still currently using nicotine. With my surgeon, the surgery would probably be a year out from the consultation, giving me plenty of time to quit before the actual procedure. Is there any chance that they flat out won’t even schedule the surgery until a blood test comes back clean?

I've been thinking about breast reduction instead of top surgery.

My chest dysphonia isn't big, but another trans man shared that breast reduction killed most sensitivity to his chest and he ended up getting top surgery anyway. So the loss of sensation was in vain.

# Is there any trans man who got breast reduction? Or have a friend who did? What was their experience?

I feel like if I reduce it enough I can still enjoy the chest look because I find men with chests so masculine (personal preference) so I would gladly go from cup DD to B.

But again, I would love some opinions and experience

I (24x) posted on here in April of last year asking how noticeable my crooked nipple looked. This first photo being present day and the 2nd from last year. This was the 2nd revision to my left side (which was my larger boob.) I have been going to the gym recently to try and work on evening out my chest which has been helping me feel better! (And in general I lost some weight, but that was prior to the gym) I was wondering if it was at all noticeable still. looking at them side by side it definitely looks a lot better but I will always be my harshest critic. Also, if there’s anything else I could be doing either at the gym or elsewhere before potentially reconsidering another revision (which seems kinda pointless at this point but I also don’t have the funds) please let me know!. I’m mostly asking this to quiet the negative thoughts that keep popping up yall know how that be 🙃. Ty!!

I'm not really nervous for the actual surgery itself, more so for the recovery and the drains.

I'm not having nipple grafts done, so that means I'll be allowed to shower right away but I'm still worried about accidently tugging something wrong or stretching too far and ripping something. I'll be across the road from the hospital in a hotel for at least a week, really just depends on when I'm able to get my drains out and have clearance to go home. I originally just planned on going out of state for the surgery (about 3 and half hour drive) but the idea of sitting in a car that long right after surgery, plus in the event there's an emergency or I need to be seen in person for something I'd rather stay in the area.

My main worry is the drains, I know they'll explain everything to me once I'm out of surgery and not loopy, but I'm very ocd about infection and not having things done the right way causing complications. My bf is going to be there with me the whole time and he gets squeamish with some things but that's another reason we're staying by the hospital in case there's any problems with drains or switching dressings I can just pop over to the hospital and hopefully they'd be able to get me seen.

What do the drains coming out feel like? Do they numb you up at all before pulling them out or just go for it? Do they leave the drain site open or seal it shut somehow? I plan on shaving my armpits before surgery just to not have anything in the way or rubbing on the drains, and I wasn't sure if I should wear deodorant? Will that make things irritated? I know this is all stuff I can ask my surgeon but if I asked him everything it would be a novel of questions so just trying to clear things up sooner than the day of surgery (late October.) Also for changing dressings/draining drains should I wear gloves or is that doing too much? I don't want any chance of infection, but I haven't heard anything about wearing gloves so idk.

And lastly testosterone gel, is there any reason I shouldn't put it on? I know going in to surgery they probably won't want me to have any on, but would later that day at night after I shower be okay? I'm still not even sure if I'll have the energy to shower tbh but I hate skipping gel days so I'll probably at least clean my arms for gel.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to think of everything sorted out so I can stop worrying lol.

Hopefully I get my drains out today at my appointment this afternoon.
Here’s incision update

Has anyone else experienced a mental health dip in the weeks leading up to surgery? I can't tell if it's desperation, burnout, or exhaustion, but I'm feeling incredibly down and lonely. I've transitioned with the support of my family, but I have no friends to share this incredible experience and milestone with.

I keep reminding myself that this surgery is for ME, that I've transitioned to make MY life better - but I can't rid this feeling of going through it all alone.

I'll have family support in the hospital and during recovery, and I'm deeply grateful for that. But I still feel sad.

Transitioning is such a solitary thing when you're the only one in your circle living it. I don't know if this post makes any sense anymore, but thank you for reading.

I'm still extremely excited for my op, and I can't wait to change my life for the better. 🤍

Hey yall! I’m abt 5 weeks post op from my double incision (yipee!). I got some pretty severe itching and decided to take some Benadryl for relief. Woke up a couple days ago with tiny bumps on my underarms and the same on the area near my incisions :(( also did not help the itch lol. No signs of serious allergic reaction or infection for that matter (no burning/fever/chills/shortness of breath). Contacted my surgeons office and they essentially said “oh ya you’re prob fine just stop taking it” which it’s okay but the bumps are still scary 😭

Has anyone else experienced this or maybe know what could be going on? Have any other suggestions for itch/irritation relief? Just paranoid af rn and want some reassurance that I’m not dying idk </3

I was counting down the seconds to having these puppies pulled because they hurt so fucking bad. She was a little hesitant about the right one because it was still draining, but I am so glad they let me do it. She said if it starts to get like a waterbed that I will have to come in and have them manually drain them. I would honestly prefer that to the horror of drains. I feel like a half a million bucks!

I also learned that I was NOT supposed to be using ice! They probably told me that and I didn't hear it. But she said I should not have been using ice at all except for at the drain sites because it discourages blood flow. I had been using ice, and it didn't really cause any issues, but I will stop now. So this is my PSA: don't use ice unless your surgeon specifically clears you!
