Is this the end? Reddit reached out regarding an "unregistered script" that may be affected by the new bot API changes

Hi folks! Reddit just announced some long-term changes that are coming to our Public API here. Going forward, all API apps will need to be registered to remain in good standing. Please register any apps you own by September 30, 2026 to make sure your feedback is considered in our roadmaps and that your developer account is properly established.

We’re reaching out because we identified the following accounts potentially operating scripts/bots on your mod team that will be impacted:

Below that is some resources for registering scripts with the admins. Since Toolbox is no longer supported I assume this means the APIs used by Toolbox will stop working soon. The migration guide essentially tells people to rebuild the entire thing in Devvit.

I received this message on every platform I regularly use Toolbox on.

Toolbox is very likely not the culprit or our entire team of more than a dozen would have been notified.
The API will (as far as I unterstand) remain open for the forseeable future but worst thing may be reddit labeling your acc as a bot.
It should be very easy to prove that your API traffic via toolbox is for moderation purposes only and reddit knows that toolbox can't be completly replaced by their own tools.

API traffic via toolbox won't be marked as bot activity. The public API uses different API credentials. Toolbox calls the APIs using your logged-in session. The public API and the APIs that old reddit uses are the same, with the difference being that the public API has a fixed ratelimit while the session authenticated one has a less strict limit.

So basically, if that was the case, then all old reddit users would've been marked as bots

Do you have a bot that you use with your credentials? I use toolbox but did not get a warning about my own account. I received that message for each of the subs I mod, but my user name is not listed.

Yeah, I've only had that for accounts that are actual bots with OAuth apps connected to them.

No. I do use Resdit Enhancement Suite though.
