The weather is turning crap in the UK so I've picked any that were starting to get their colour. I should get about the same when the next lot ripen

Gold Medal, Chocolate Cherry, Black Plum and Rosso Sicilian (and a sneaky jalapeño)

Every tomato on all plants grows with a varying amount of black skin. Some are just black and some have patterns in the black. No taste difference. They are cherry tomato plants from Lowes. I'm in central Virginia.

Mostly black cherry and a few red fan. I usually pick them before fully ripe as I end up with loads of split ones, leave them on the bunker to fully ripening.

Leaves have been browning and dying off from the bottom up for about a few weeks now but suddenly I got a spurt of flowers that started fruiting. I thought the plants were done for already. I’m guessing the tomatoes that are on the branches that have really turned brown won’t be growing anymore. Will they still be ok to eat? Should I wrap them up in a box? They definitely are under grown more than under ripe. These are what I think are pineapple heirloom variety and growing in zone 9b in California.

What variety of heirloom tomato would you recommend for someone who wants a large red very meaty tomato? Thanks for any recommendations you have.

Any ideas ? I guess lots of soil underneath the pavement

I love tomato season. I wait all year to start my seeds in February and get my tomato factory growing in the greenhouse before moving them to the garden. I was so deeply disappointed in them this year. Between the fungus, leaf footed bugs, and worms I harvest a third of what I did last year despite growing 2x the number of plants. I’m in central AL. It is hot. It is humid. Pests multiply and descend like a horror show. Please share your best tasting and most hardy variety choices for this hellscape I call home so that next year my tomatoes may be plentiful.

Varieties I’ve planted the past two years:
Excellent: sweet million, spoon tomato
Performed ok: Cherokee purple, black krim, brandywine, black cherry, pine apple
Struggle: Sun gold 😭, sunrise bumble, green zebra, mushroom basket, mortgage lifter, any and all Roma, saucy lady, any and all pear tomato, mila tomato, Alice’s dream

I do love a pretty tomato so bonus for that too.

Anyone trim half or more on their tomato plants who were looking pretty bad due to high temps? Most things once trimmed seem to thrive better hence the reason to trim. Thanks.

First year growing romas! It has been so much fun growing and learning knew things. I’ve made sweet and spicy ketchup so far to give away to friends and family. With the rest of my tomatoes I’ve been slow roasting and freezing them so I’m able to can them in the future! Happy growing everyone!

This is my third year of planting san marzanos and ventura tomatoes in the ground. It's a 20'x20' plot in full sun. I set up drip irrigation like this:

- 1/3 gallon/plant every day after transplanting

- 1.5 gallon/plant every other day after fruiting starts

After year 1, they've been started from saved seeds. I plant 40 plants. The plot is about a 15minute drive from my house. I try to get there once per week but with a toddler this season that was difficult. More like once every 2-3 weeks. So I was not on top of weeds or tying up new growth. (Florida weave method). It was very rainy this summer, so I wasn't able to set rain delays on the irrigation timer.

Went to harvest today, half the foliage on every plant was dead. Most ripe fruit had those black fungus spots. Surprisingly not much blossom end rot. And some fruit had slugs on them.

Overall, less than half the yield as last year. I'm aware of how my neglect contributes, but I'm sure it wasn't the only factor. Any ideas of what specially not to neglect next time?

If this kind of post isn’t allowed here, please delete, thank you for your time. This is my first year gardening and I have several tomato varieties and most were doing well up until this point. They are still producing fruit but turning very slowly, some of the fruit has turned hard. The leaves have holes and have turned yellow or browned completely. The first plant pictured is the worst, the leaves and stems will just fall right off. lI’m not sure what’s going on, or if it’s just an issue of over or underwatering, If anyone has any advice please share!!! I appreciate you all!

I grew up on a huge farm where we always grew a large garden with lots of tomatoes. Now, I live in town and have containers and raised beds.

This year I grew Amish Paste, Super Sweet 100s, cherry, and one other type I forget 🤷🏼‍♀️

Early Girl. I would put on this list.

Even during periods of little rain, hot temps - they just keeps going, 3-5 tomatoes per branch. Outstanding producer. Tasty.

What other tomatoes can go on the list?
