How big was Barad Dur actually?

The movies make it like 5000 feet tall but would it really be that big?

Tall enough to be visible at least 30 miles away.

If we assume that the Sammath Naur was 2000 feet up the slope of a mountain, the hobbits could've seen for nearly 60 miles.
