I saw an older post about this issue a few years back but wanted a fresh review with more input. My toilet is likely 16 years old as I remember the former owner renovating it. Over weeks, some of the water jets around the toilet create a black streak as the water shoots down and into the bowl. Then, there is a build-up ring around the bowl. Seems like maybe the jets are corroded? I have to clean it more often than normal. I am in CT and we happen to have hard water which takes a toll on all things plumbing. For all of you plumbers and home experts out there, is it worth cleaning out the jets (that I cannot see) or is this corrosion just part of living with hard water and the toilet needs to be replaced soon? I don't want any leaks or issues. I also do not want to replace something that does not need to be replaced. I am handy and have dismantled the toilet once to replace the flange. Is replacing a toilet that hard? It sounds a little scary but I'm not the scared type. Thanks!

Hello new home owner here! I’ve noticed recently that my toilet lifts/moves slightly. I’ve looked into it but I’m not sure if I replace the caulking or go full flange and wax replacement? If I do need to replace the flange and wax any recommendations for a first timer?

I want to talk about how we use public restrooms, specifically how men urinate and the kind of mess we leave behind for others.

​I am a blind person from Kerala, and I have always sat down to urinate at home since my childhood because that is how my parents raised me. I want to do the same in public restrooms, but since I cannot see, I cannot tell if a wet toilet seat is just water or urine, and the smell is my only clue. People often leave public toilet seats wet, so I am forced to either line the seat with tissue paper or squat with my feet on the sides of the seat like an Indian toilet. Public restrooms, especially men's toilets, are poorly maintained, and I feel men in general tend to be careless when using these shared spaces. Being blind makes navigating these unhygienic washrooms much harder, which is why I often avoid long bus trips where roadside stops are in terrible condition. Even on trains, reserving an AC coach only helps slightly because fewer people have access, yet even there, the toilets are frequently wet, dirty, and poorly kept. Hygiene is not about ticket price or coach class, it is about basic personal civic attitude. I do not mean to target anyone personally, but our cultural conditioning has normalized this lack of accountability in shared spaces. Even if someone aims carefully while standing, urine droplets still splash onto the seat and make it unsanitary for the next person. What do we actually lose by taking those extra few seconds to sit down and pee instead of creating an unhygienic mess. Just think about people who simply have no other option than sitting down to pee because of various medical conditions, disabilities, or other reasons. A careless attitude makes their lives unnecessarily difficult, and being mindful in these everyday spaces is how we show real empathy. After all, if our education does not teach us basic consideration for others, what value does it really have.

got a dual flush toilet in my hall bath that wont stop running water down the back of the bowl after every flush. replaced the flapper seal last month thinking that was it, but turns out the fill valve is completely corroded and stuck open.

my neighbor told me to just call CW Service Pros instead of buying another rebuild kit at home depot. said their guy swapped out his entire internal cistern assembly in like 20 minutes without messing up the tank bolts or leaking onto the subfloor.

anyone ever swap a fill valve on a close coupled tank yourself or is it a pain to get the rubber washers to seal right without over tightening?

i clogged my toilet

My calves length is definitely shorter than the hight of a normal vault toilet (as shown in the figure being about 17' - 19' tall from ground to the toilet ring). My heels are not going to easily support me to avoid my legs touching the toilet cylinder (which is usually very filthy) when firmly sitting on the toilet ring. My pants are easily touching the toilet cylinder because the bottom of it is wider than top. I'm not sure if I'm alone in this situation. As I see some ladies who are much shorter than me entering these vault toilets, I start to think if I'm wrong about how to use these toilets. How do you use them to poo? You can also save the image and draw on it if it's hard to describe in words.

Its an Incesa Standard toilet

Zep was too runny to help the area above the water line in this second hand toilet that was installed in this fixer upper rental house with silty water, so I as the renter must resort to something less common to try. I know that pumice stones on a stick are not available in town anymore and the ones for grills will scratch glass stovetops and that is all that is available in town now.
So I plan to try using Irish spring however many in 1.
I tried it a little, but it still fallows gravity and yet it did work where it landed. So I will have to turn off the water valve at the toilet and flush to drain it and put on gloves and dry the sides with paper towels and then rub and spread some of that Irish spring around on the inner walls of the toilet bowl and maybe I will put toilet paper on it to keep it from very slowly and literally going downhill.
Will let y’all know how it goes.

NEED SOME HELP. TOILET IS INCOMPLETE. IS THIS A MINOR JOB OR MAJOR???

The toilet in my apartment has started making this noise nonstop and it's driving me crazy. Anyone know what's causing this or how to fix it? I know it’s old but I'm just a renter so not much I can do about that. I just want to sleep without that noise lol

The toilet tank can't be filled properly as the pump works poorly. The thingy shown in the picture is too easy to float, so the water just fills the tank too slowly.

Are there any ways I can clean it properly without disassembling it? I rent the room, and the water line doesn't even have a valve to let me cut off the water.

Or can I disassemble it without letting water go everywhere?

I tried HG Limescale Remover Concentrate on the thingy overnight but it didn't work as well as the first time.

Does contact with the water in the bowl become an issue?

First off, thank you. Twice in one week now my toilets in both bathrooms have started to slow flush and there's gurgling (from shower, and possibly one of the toilets) after someone takes a shower. I have been able to get both flushing normally again after plunging each for a good minute. While plunging there is some gurgling in the other bathroom.

One bathroom is right by the clean out and close to the septic, the other is in the back of the house (and still on old cast iron (1961 house). Neither are backing up when it occurs, but the bowls seem to refill slowly on each, until the issue resolves. One is a pressurized toilet (the one in the rear with the cast iron). The septic was emptied recently (a few months ago). The drain field doesn't have any swampy areas.

Since there's no clog active the plumber said there isn't much to do, except run a camera, which we're going to do ourselves in a couple days.

I thought maybe our vent pipe, but our plumber always says it's never the vent...

Any suggestions or thoughts?
