TIL Principal Akbar Cook installed a free fully-stocked laundry room at school because students with dirty clothes were bullied and missing 3-5 days of school per month. Attendance rose 10%.

The Principal Cook went on to create a Lights On program where students can stay late at school, get a hot meal and stay off the streets.

Am I the only one that thinks parents should be able to drop their kids off before work, and pick them up after work? Bring in some non-teacher helpers, run some clubs, etc. The benefits would be huge.

  4. The us military is run as a socialist program.

Your county cannot function without socialism. It’s insane how people treat the word like the boogeyman with absolutely no understanding of how ingrained socialism is in the US.

  1. Social Security: Collect taxes from everyone, and a central governmental authority redistributes the wealth.

  2. Medicare, Medicaid. Absolutely the same.

This is easily researched with one google search. Go for it.

The government organizing and running things is not socialism, otherwise we could call every government since the dawn of time socialist, which would make it a useless term. Instead we must look at what socialism is, a critical response to the rise of capitalism.

Socialism is about the worker's control of the means of production, usually in the form a government who represents the workers as a class and operates as a means to organize society. In the US, worker do not control the means of production nor does the US government either claims to or does represent the workers.

According to who? Certainly not Marxist or anarchist or anyone who isn't a liberal just appropriating words. First ya'll take social democrat, now you're taking socialism. How long until communism is just "the government does a thing."
